WIX Research
An introduction and exploration.
Introduction
WIX was founded in 2006, with the mindset to create a platform
that allows anyone to create their own website for free. Today
they have 90 million users in over 190 countries, offering full
customisable designer-made templates. They have offices all
across the world, for example, New York, Ukraine and
Germany.
Themes
Upon opening WIX, you are required to either create
an account or sign in. Once the account has been
entered, and one decides on creating a website, WIX
asks a variation of questions about what the website
is for, and in the case of creating a magazine, what
they magazine offers and what type of facilities are
reqired. This could range through anything from the
ability to contact the company, to recent news etc.
Theme 1: Spark
Theme 1: Spark
The first theme, Spark, is considerably concise, smart and simple.
In relation to my magazine, this may portray Artista in this
particular way, and addresses the featured contemporary art within
the magazine. The font of the theme, is substantially simple and
easy, which will prove convenient for my audience to read. The
use of the red colour is undoubtedly eye-catching and forward,
concepts I’d like my magazine to employ. The use of the colour is
also unisex, allowing for my magazine to target both genders,
relating to my magazine’s unisex target audience and the
relevance of growing gender equality in the modern day,
predominantly in relation to make up. I would like my magazine to
employ red, however, the extensive colours within art in general
may prove choosing one house theme colour to be difficult,
therefore I would prefer to have a theme that doesn’t particularly
address one sole colour, so that the website is open to all of the
colour schemes that feature in multiple issues of the magazine.
Theme 2: Bouquet
Theme 2: Bouquet
Bouquet, the second theme I explored, really caught
my eye due to it’s decorative font. I believe the use
of this font would be perfect for this particular make-
up issue of my magazine, due to the fact that using
make-up allows you to be decorative with your own
face, connoting a theme of freedom to be yourself; a
theme that I want my magazine to incorporate. The
colour of the magazine relates to a very girly concept
which can be identified with make up, however this
almost excludes the unisex concept of my magazine,
therefore it is not suited to my magazine.
Theme 3: Classic
Theme 3: Classic
I really like this theme due to it’s simplicity through
colour, layout and font. The font of the theme is basic
and simple, which relates to the simplicity of the
black and white colour scheme. I feel like this not
only applies to my unisex theme, but I also believe
the theme creates a great base, allowing the website
to be buildable and open to a range of colours for
each issue. This allows me to switch the featuring
colours with each issue of the magazine. The layout
is professional and contemporary, relating to the
professional feel of the magazine, and the art
featured.
Theme 4: Delight
Theme 4: Delight
Delight, the final theme I selected, is considerable
different to the rest of the themes. The incorporation
of yellow sets this theme aside, and it positively eye-
catching. However, yellow is a colour that is rarely
employed in make-up looks. This could be a positive
aspect, convincing those targeted to step outside
their comfort zone with their make up art, or
ambiguously it could put those off of the magazine
for being too extravagant. I feel that the font of the
magazine is particularly artistic and bold, with a
simple and easily-navigated layout.
Target Audience
Opinion
In order to strengthen the reasoning of my choices, I
acquired the opinion of my target audience.
To do this, I used www.surveymonkey.co.uk . This
allowed me to create my own survey, that I could link
to and post to my target audience.
The survey discusses the areas of layout, font,
colour scheme and overall opinion.

Conclusion
Although I like certain aspects off all of the fonts, I believe that
Spark colour theme is too specific on one colour, and that
others would inconveniently clash with the red. Bouquet is more
gender specific than I’d prefer, despite my love of the
decorative font, and Delight’s yellow colour scheme proves to
be a bit more extravagant than I’d like my magazine to be.
It is evident through my target audience research that Classic is
the most popular choice, followed by Spark and Bouquet, and
lastly, Delight.
Therefore, the theme I would like to choose is the Classic
theme, due to it’s buildable set up, favourable font and colour
scheme and popularity with my target audience.
