Work Style
Tech Culture
Code
By Gustavo Dore
About this Culture Code
Work Style Tech has been around for 5 years, since april 2016. This code is a
summary of all the things that worked out and the things which didn’t .
We learned that it is always all about the people who make it.
Therefore, it is all about Culture.
Values
Love the Client
Put yourself in their shoes.
- Everytime we lost a client was
because we were trying to have
too many clients at once and
they all felt unimportant to us.
- Learn about HR, learn about
their problems more than the
clients know about it themselves
and be the support they need.
- All decisions should be made by
putting ourselves in the clients
shoes.
Always
Learning
Change is good. Keep updating.
- Be it books, be it events, be it
formal training. People who are
always learning are the only
ones with resilience to face all
hardships.
- If you face a wall, get a book,
google it, meet an expert (do
whatever is necessary) and learn
how to break through.
- Every time one is opposing
change, we get slow and do a lot
of compromises that should not
be done.
Radical Truth
Constant feedback
- When something is not working,
one should say so as soon as
possible.
- One should give positive and
negative feedback to their peers
on a timely manner.
- One should be honest with the
client in the value we are
providing.
Work-Life
blend
You never stop living and you
never stop working
- Choose to do your work in a way
that you are excited about it. Be
that a different desk or a new
technology.
- Just by being dedicated to self-
improvement one will keep the
motivation at all times.
- Time and place can be flexible:
Holiday on a Wednesday and
work on a Sunday. No problem
as long as you do the work
promised.
Do the work
Do what you set out to do
- If one promises to do something,
just do it. Mood and feelings
towards other things are
irrelevant. “Today I just don’t
feel like it” is unacceptable.
- Most of success comes from
doing the mundane tasks and
pushing hard over a long time.
- Work for goals that everyone is
excited about.
Culture Code
A strong passion
for making people
to feel alive at
work
Not only for our clients, but how to
make our peers feel like they matter,
how to help everyone enjoy the
work.
No bullshit nor
lip-service
No lies “because he is the boss” or
“because the boss likes them”.
Never hire an asshole because they
can do the job well. All this is poison.
Woman with
same power as
men at work
As simple as that, same salary, same
opportunity, same power. No other
behaviour will be tolerated.
Spend time with
family is a priority
There is nothing more important
than human connection. Time with
family will mean a stable family. That
will mean one can focus at work.
Everyone should
have a life-plan
If you don’t have one, we will help
you create one. One should have a
goal to be able to be excited with
their own life and feel progress.
Our Cultural
Diversity is what
makes us strong
In order to make a global impact we
are gathering people who are great
in what they do, no matter their
nationality. This makes us strong.
Few companies can say the same.
Focus
There is so much distraction in the
world today. Imagine you have a
bucket with a limit of projects you
can handle. Just get a new one once
you close one of the list.
Management as
people
development
It is not about giving orders, but
about growing people so they can be
their best.
Salary should be
higher than
market average
Salary should be higher than the
market base so we keep talent in
peace and happy at our company.
Salary should also be based on Net
Disposable Income so people don’t
have to worry about their basic bills.
Volume is KING
In the technology business there is
no space for Luxury business.
Volume of users is what makes or
breaks a company. We should
always be aiming for high-volume
Giving instead of
taking
Everyday ask yourself: “How can I
contribute to this group?” Instead of
“What is there for me”.
A strong passion
for personal
relationships
In the past we hired people who did
not liked to interact with other
people. In the HR world, that is just
bad business. Love the people you
work with, in all directions.
