Working With Parents
Language and Culture of the families in
          Preschool Room

 Language: Cantonese, Mandarin and English
 Culture:
  In China, most of the families are allowed only have one
   child
  Rice is very important; it’s a dietary staple for many people
  People like to use wok or mental pan to cook something
  Some important festival includes Spring Festival, Mid-Autumn
   Festival. In Spring Festival, children can get lucky money from
   adults, and in Mid- Autumn Festival, they can light a lantern.
The efforts I made to learn about
       children’s families


Always try to remember the parents’ name
Review family tree in the preschool room with the
children
I always ask the children some questions, such as
“How many people in your family, can you tell me?”
“What’s your Daddy’s/Mom’s job?”
Special examples about me to make an
effort to communicate with the families


  Tell the parents their children did something
  interesting in daycare
  Always show the pictures for the parents to let them
  know what their children did in my activities
  Retell to the parents what their children said in my
  activities
  Explained to the parents why I need to plan these
  activities for their children
  Invite the parents to participate in my activities
The two important things I will do next to
  help me become more confident and
              competent


  Always observe my teacher how to interact with the
  parents
  I need to continue to understand family’s culture very
  well
