● Loyal version - dynamic use, subject to availability, specific
assignment;
● Stand-alone version - payment for use of time;
● Stand-alone or integrated with Micro I / O solutions.
Smart Locker
• The system controls the use of water in showers;
• Allows a saving of thousands of gallons of water;
• Identifies the user;
• Allows a pre-defined number of minutes of hot water;
• Allows configuration of longer showers, supporting thus the extra value;
• For enterprises and Universities.
Shower control (2012)
Laundries management (2011)
Control and payment solution for the use of washing machines and driers.
Reduction of human resources allocated to these facilities
Allows a greater flexibility for users who can access the space whenever it suits them
Identification card allows:
• Trigger and pay for the use of the machines;
• Access to the institution;
• reservation and payment of meals;
• access to vending machines, among other features.
M2M (2010)
Telemetry solutions based M2M (Machine to Machine) systems.
An example is the integration of an identification system (RFID, biometrics or other) with vending machines
• providing an interface to the company’s back office;
• a web interface that will allow the service users to check their balance movements, and to the operators the
total stock control, sales and movements, allowing a better definition of supply routes and marking of specific
emergency response.
Lisbon subway(1998)
Development of Lisbon Subway entire communications structure of the information network.
●
Communications system of information panels with dedicated electronic for the trunk interface of optic fiber and
different panels in existing stations.
●
Software control, of the maintenance and control room, that communicates and manages the messages and
panels at each station.
●
Micro I/O performed the conversion and upgrade of this project dedicated to the needs of the customer that
was initially in fiber optic and later converted to Ethernet.
Smart Bike (2013)
Goals of the Smart Bike project consists of
• Development of the 5th generation of shared use bicycle systems;

Strategies to increase the autonomy of sensors...
Data Gathering and Actuating
• Low profile, discreet and perfectly integrated
• Robust (users and ambience proof)
• Get a good integration of sensors with the architecture and the surrounding environment!
Data Gathering and Actuating
• High range communications
Range vs Power Consumption vs Capilatity
Data Transport
• How many layers we need?
• Is GSM/GPRS the answer?
• Power requirements for the base stations/gateways
• Opportunistic communications or always on?
• Robust (users proof)
• High range communications
• …
• Again, Great challenges!

Data Transport
• How many layers do we need?
• Is GSM/GPRS the answer?
How to stratify communications layers?
It's cellular cost worth?
Which are the power consumption implications?
Can we have a large antenna?
Data Transport
• Power requirements for the base stations/gateways
Grid powered?
Solar Panel?
Other?
Data Transport
• Opportunistic communications or always on?
Are opportunistic communication a save way to go?
Are they reliable enough?
