The Differences Of John Coll And Alex Pentek
This essay will discuss the contemporary artists John Coll and Alex Pentek with regard to figurative
sculpture in Ireland. This text will explore the backgrounds of said artists, their most notable works
and the underlying themes concerning their sculptures. Also in this essay the issue of the increasing
theft of sculptures both private and public will be examined including the factors surrounding these
incidents.
John Coll was born in the Taylor s Hill area of county Galway in Ireland and is currently living in
Dublin. Originally Coll s primary career was as a marine biologist. He has been a full time artist for
over 30 years as a figurate sculptor. He received an honours degree in Zoology, University College,

Nation s aid to Ireland during the famine in 1847. The tribe sent over 170 dollars in an aid to help
victims of the famine. However this charitable gesture renders significant mention due to the fact that
1831 the Choctaw Indians were forcibly removed from their ancestral lands in Mississippi to what is
now known as Oklahoma. This impressive sculpture stands six meters high with an LED light
arrangement that complements the stainless steel finish. Revealing nine feathers arranged

indicative of wealth and status. However owl feathers can have connotations associated with death and
prophesy. This work is situated in Midleton, County Cork. Similarly in 1992, a plaque was unveiled at
the Lord Mayor s Mansion in Dublin that reads, Their humanity calls us to remember the millions of

First I would like to tell you a little about myself. This is my first article ever published in a magazine.
Rolling Stone is my first job straight out of college. I finished college back in May 2002 at New York
University with a degree in Journalism. I landed my job with the magazine as one of the editors saw a
blog post of mine. With the growing popularity of computer and the internet, I decided to start
blogging as a way to pass time while I was looking for a post college job and a way to move out of my
parent s house. I grew up in a middle class family in Scarsdale which is located in Westchester County
about forty minutes north of New York City. My Irish American mother is a flight attendant while my
dad who came from London, England is a lawyer. I m the oldest of four children. Before hip hop
became a movement shared by the world it was New York City s best kept secret. And it was an
example of how blacks and Latinos were known to be the trailblazers in American culture. The history
of hip hop s origins among African American and Puerto Rican youth in the South Bronx is commonly
recited (Ogbar, 3). Factors that gave rise to hip hop in New York City (Ogbar, 3) in the 1970s the
decade prior to my birth included the fact of the Black Power movement and Puerto Rican nationalist
activism (Ogbar, 3) beginning to wane. The most important direct influence on the creation of hip hop

Yeats s Interest in Rhythm
The purpose of rhythm, it has always seemed to me, is to prolong the moment of contemplation, the
moment when we are both awake and asleep, which is the one moment of creation, by hushing us with
an alluring monotony, while it holds us waking by variety, to keep us in that state of perhaps real
trance, in which the mind liberated from the pressure of the will is unfolded in symbols. (W.B. Yeats)
What light does this comment of Yeats shed on his poetry? Feel free in your answer to concentrate on
poetic devices other than rhythm if you prefer. Yeats interest in rhythm was deeply tied to the notion
of the sound of the earth and nature, and our relationship with the elements. He also had a profound
interest and belief in faery, and the ways in which one could transcend material reality in order to
reach that world which ran alongside the natural world. Yet Yeats, who was born in 1865 and died in
1939, lived through an era of immense scientific discovery and change. He lived in a world where, by
and large, to believe in faery was to be irrational, and the industrial hum of engines prevailed over the
quieter sounds of nature. In his earlier poetry, he conveys a certain reverence towards the ancient
rhythms of language and nature, flying in the face of the frenetically busy London life he experienced
as a young man. The bewitching beauty of the landscape of Sligo, steeped in folklore, were the true
rhythms which brought on the state of perhaps real trance , allowing him to

Individuation In George Orwell s Demian
Pythagoras of Samos, a Greek philosopher, author, and mathematician, once said, No one is free who
has not obtained the empire of himself. No man is free who cannot command himself (Riedweg,
n.pag). When Pythagoras says that no person is free who has not obtained the empire of himself, he
means that no one is free from his unconscious until he uncovers it and accepts himself. By
uncovering one s unconscious, he can freely make good decisions and be responsible for himself.
When uncovering his unconscious, he acknowledges every part of himself, including the good and the
bad. In the novel, Demian, the protagonist and narrator, Emil Sinclair, uncovers his unconscious
through the process of individuation. The process of individuation includes the steps to uncover one s
unconscious and the will to accept every part of him. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

family of the high middle class. I have a father, a brother, and a recently deceased mother. I attended a
small private school in a diverse city and later attended a Catholic private high school. In Hermann
Hesse s novel, Demian, he illustrates the process of individuation through the steps Sinclair takes in
loosing his innocence, revealing the effects of puberty, and discovering an influence from a friend

Analysis Of The Book The Scarlet Letter
As I began my summer reading assignment I wasn t too amused at the beginning chapters
of the Scarlet Letter, With Hawthorne throwing around words like quietude I wasn t sure if
it was truly the difference in his old English speech, or if he was tossing in obscure words just to
send people looking through their dictionaries to find out if he had, in fact, made the word up, or
not. But, as I delved deeper into Hawthorn s work I found a brilliant story with some of the
richest characters I had ever had the pleasure of reading about. Of the four major characters in
the book, I empathized with Arthur Dimmesdale the most. Dimmesdale is man of God
imprisoned by his own beliefs, and because of this he lives his life wallowing in guilt, despair,
and pain. Dimmesdale wants to be a father to Pearl, but to do so it would jeopardize his social
standing in the Puritan culture and his career. In his confliction, Dimmesdale feels that he
should punish himself; he takes away what little humanity he has left just so he can feel he has
appeased God. I can t help but feel sorry for a man who lives in such a heartbreaking pool of
despair and self loathing.
Where Dimmesdale s character really shines, though, is in the Election Day sermon scene
and the scenes leading up to the Election Day sermon. After leaving the forest Dimmesdale is
filled with new life and motivation. He now has purpose, something to live for. Later, in the
third scaffold scene, Dimmesdale

people live and the resources available. For example, knowing that Spain has plenty of river, and
portion of its borders were covered by 2 major body of water would mean that Spain would have a
fishing industry. Also it can be concluded that a possible way to trade is by using ships. The landscape
and the weather would also enhance the students knowledge of Spain s ability to produce minerals and
agricultural products. Knowing its location also helps the students understand that Spain is in Europe
which is relatable to being a part of European Union and the use of euros as their currency.

The Metamorphosis By Kafka
Kafka s The Metamorphosis, is the story of Gregor Samsa, a traveling salesman who is responsible for
the financial well being of his entire family, yet experiences an unfortunate metamorphosis into a giant
bug. However, while Gregor undergoes a disturbing physical transformation, the family dynamic
changes drastically as well. The family s treatment of Gregor slowly deteriorates from them regarding
him as the basis for their financial success and security to regarding him as no more than an
extraordinary nuisance that holds them back from a brighter future.
On the morning of Gregor s transformation, each family member noticed his absence and visited his
room to inquire about his tardiness in leaving for work. Gregor s employment was a vital aspect of
their existence, so when the chief clerk from Gregor s employer is sent to investigate the reason for
Gregor s missing the train, his entire family is quick to offer an excuse in his defense. At the sight of
the chief clerk, Gregor s mother blurts out, He s not feeling well (Kafka, Franz Kafka Metamorphosis
and Other Stories), and defends her son by claiming how his job is her son s primary concern. Once
Gregor s condition is discovered, events take a turn for the worse; the chief clerk flees, and his mother,
repulsed at the site of him, retreats, leaving his father to attack and drive him back into his room.

To A Mouse Analysis
The best laid schemes o mice an men, gang aft agley. Robert Burns states this in his famous poem To a
Mouse, this is believed to have influenced the title of the novel Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck.
The reason this line from the poem influences the novel does not seem apparent at first, but by the end
of the novel it becomes clear. This novel focuses on two friends, Lennie and George who are migrant
workers in the 1930 s during the great depression. They move from ranch to ranch with each other,
which sets them apart from most because they have each other, while the majority of migrant workers
travel alone. George is a small man who is smart and responsible, and takes care of Lennie. Lennie is a
very large, strong, man, but he is very simple minded, as he is a little mentally challenged. Although
Lennie seems intimidating, he is a very nice man and has the mentality of a child. The novel focuses
on the dream that George and Lennie have of getting their own farm. This is a very important
component of the novel, because presumably, it is the idea of George and Lennie s dream that inspired
the novel s title. Steinbeck conveys the message of Robert Burns poem by showing how easily a
dream or plan can be shattered.
George and Lennie talk about their dream of owning a farm near the beginning of the novel, so we can
assume that they have had this dream for quite some time, especially from the detail George includes
when telling Lennie about it. They want to have their

Summary Of Discoveries In The Tempest
Discoveries that are confronting can provoke us to change, due to the realisations and findings we may
encounter. These mind altering discoveries can transform our values, actions and future pathways.
Both William Shakespeare s romantic comedy tempest exploring the connotations of, hierarchy,

Compassion In The Novel Hiroshima By John Hersey
Should you find yourself in a disaster, helping others is most likely not your first thought. The more
rational probe for a way to survive safely, they usually worry about themselves first, and others
second. In the Novel Hiroshima by John Hersey, even though many of the main characters are hurt,
run to assist others. Mrs. Hatsuyo Nakamura, Reverend Kiyoshi Tanimoto, and Father Wilhelm
Kleinsorge, who were in the thick of it lacked any authentic reason to help others, yet they still made
the effort to try. The disaster that befell Hiroshima was an atrocity, however, it did bring the
community closer. Compassion in all forms, enthralls those who have nothing to gain to help others,
regardless of the repercussions or sacrifices. Often times we think of our loved ones when disaster
befalls us. In Mrs. Nakamura s case, she thought of her children. After the flash tore down her house,
she immediately scoured the rubble to look for her youngest who cried out to her. After getting
everyone out safely, a neighbor approached her and asked her if she had any spare bandages Mrs.
Nakamura did not, but she crawled into the remains of her house again and some white cloth ... ripped
it into strips and gave it to Mrs. Nakamoto, (page 20). Even though Mrs. Nakamura didn t have much
to offer, since her home was in tatters, she still made an effort to bring back something that would help

Management Plan For Risk Management
Risk Management
Risk management is the identification, assessment, and prioritization of risks followed by coordinated
and economical application of resources to minimize, monitor, and control the probability and impact
of unfortunate events or to maximize the realization of opportunities. Risk management s objective is
to assure uncertainty does not deflect the endeavor from the business goals. Risks can come from
various sources: e.g., uncertainty in financial markets, threats from project failures (at any phase in
design, development, production, or sustainment life cycles), legal liabilities, credit risk, accidents,
natural causes and disasters as well as deliberate attack from an adversary, or events of uncertain or
unpredictable root cause. The risk management plan should propose applicable and effective security
controls for managing the risks. A good risk management plan should contain a schedule for control
implementation and responsible persons for those actions.
It is important to assess and measure different types of risks that the company can face prior to
stepping foot in a different country. The three broad types of risk are: 1) Political Risk, 2) Economic
Risk and 3) Cultural Risk. Political, social, economic, cultural, and legal and government issues need
to be taken care of before launching any brand in any country.
1) Political Risk:
Political risk is a type of risk faced by investors, corporations, and governments. It is a risk that can be

The Ring Of The Bell On The Door
She gazed out of the café window and watched the rain make paths down the frosted glass. The
steaming cup of tea warmed her freezing fingers. Everything is cold, she thought as she focused on her
reflection, everything is always so damn cold. She sighed deeply, drawing the cup to her lips, the
smell of bergamot pervading her senses and warming her, if only for a moment. The image of his eyes

conversation still skulked around her head. She knew she needed to let it go and move on, but she
couldn t. She loved him. And the truth of it, the fucking awful truth, was that she couldn t make him

she looked up into the same eyes that she had just been brooding on. A thrill of panic, tinged with
desire, shot through her and then was gone. What do you want, Tae? she asked indifferently, breaking

Social Responsibility within the Community
Social Responsibility within the Community Water conservation has become a socially responsible
effort which is gaining momentum in the community in which I live. Though slow to get rolling, as
awareness rises in the community, so do the individual actions. Each small action that an individual
takes to conserve water contributes to the overall community effort. The use of water within the
community has been steadily decreasing as awareness increases. Through this concerted effort, the
community as a whole has become more cohesive. This cohesiveness is the direct result of individuals
working together vas a team and sharing a common goal. Further, individuals also achieve a sense of
accomplishment and well being as water consumption decreases. These good feelings are a direct
result of actively contributing to ecological conservation. The community in which I reside is a small
one with its own utility district and water treatment plant. By having its own designated utility district
and plant, the tracking of water usage is less complicated than in areas with shared water utility
districts and water treatment plants. In fact, this simplicity has led to public awareness of the
community s water usage. Since the data is easy to access, it has made it easy for the neighborhood to
publicize usage via signs throughout the neighborhood and weekly water consumption is also posted
on a large, highly visible sign at the community center. Almost everyone within the community must

Summary Of Fantasyland, How America Went Haywire
Author Kurt Anderson mostly blames a certain group of people in his book Fantasyland, How
America went Haywire. In a nutshell, Protestants are the problem. Anderson spends chapter after
chapter, starting with Martin Luther and continuing through American history of how Protestant
beliefs have been detrimental to America. In his view which comes across as snide and derisive, they
are the bane of American existence because they believe in magic and supernatural things and have
left most of reason behind. Anderson practically sneers (many words are in italics for emphasis) when
he writes of Protestants. Certainly, some Protestants may be gun nuts, and preppers but not all. Most
of my Protestant friends don t own a gun and they send their children to public school. (Anderson is
not a fan of homeschooling or private religious education).
I found Anderson to be one of those people who believes his way is the only way to live. He
chronicles that taking illegal drugs taught him character. This is a rather strange way to build
character, hard work and helping others is what I was taught by my baby boomer Protestant parents.
He lives in Brooklyn, I believe, and feels that the American s dream of a pastoral setting (the suburbs )
has ruined the entire country. This is a great big land and not everyone wants to or needs to live on top
of each other in a city. Yes, Americans have many cars, but my husband and I take public
transportation to the city from our suburban home. The author

Importance Of Cognitively Based Attitudes
Attitudes are evaluations of people, objects, and ideas. (Akert, 2013) Cognitively based attitudes are
based on thoughts and beliefs one has about an object, and this attitude provides pros and cons of an
object, so we can decide if we want to be associated with it or not. Affectively based attitudes are
based more on people s feelings and values than on their beliefs about the nature of an attitude object.
(Akert, 2013) The elaboration likelihood model is the umbrella for this topic, because it explains the
two ways in which persuasion can change someone attitude. The two ways are persuasion through the
central route and the persuasion through the peripheral route. The elaboration likelihood model refers
to processing the message which is related to the cognitively based attitudes. Persuasive
communication is most successful in changing attitudes when going through the central route because
the audience is motivated, whereas with the peripheral route the audience is not motivated. Now I am
going to discuss the routes of persuasion through advertisements in detail.
The case in which people elaborate on a persuasive communication, listening carefully to and thinking
about the arguments, which occurs when people have both ability, and the motivation to listen
carefully to communication is defined as the central route to persuasion. (Akert, 2013) For my
example, I found an advertisement about Rihanna s new long wearing, shine proof, makeup line. Her
message is, having 40

Spotless Mind
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind Essay If you could erase any memories you wanted, would
you? The connection between our memories and our ability to feel joy is very closely related.
Recalling memories are something we do multiple times every day. Memories are a place where
emotions, feelings, experiences, and who we are as a person reside. Without our memories, we would
be very different than how we are right now. Many times we find ourselves wishing we could forget
certain things, but we do not realize that if we wouldn t have the knowledge and the growth we gained
from it happening in the first place. In the movie Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind we see how
sometimes what we think we want is very different then what we actually ... Show more content on

There is not one memory that anyone can recall that they won t feel any sort of emotion for rather
good or bad. Joy and sadness are the two main emotions we feel when we recall memories. We can t
have one without the other. When we remember things they are broken up into good and bad
memories. For example, when something horrible happens to us like a break up mostly all the
memories which were once joyful will then become sad. Those now sad memories have the ability to
affect the way you feel in everyday life. This is where memories can be a bad thing, say in a year I
meet someone new I could easily run away and hide because I fear what happened to me before might
happen again because I remember the pain I felt. On the other hand, how can I experience joy if I don
t remember what pain feels like. This might seem like a funny concept, but if we lived in a world
where we could forget all the bad things that have happened and some of the good things we would
not know what real joy feels like cause we would always just be stuck in the same

Importance Of Choosing A Business Entity
Monique Desir Choosing a Business Entity The Importance of Choosing a Business Entity As an
accountant and Tax Preparer in New York, Monique Desir works with many tax payers who require a
business entity. There are many factors that go into the choosing of a business entity, and the
implications for the business can be large. If you are working towards a new business, find a tax
professional who knows the ins and out of business entities in your area. What is a Business Entity? A
business entity is not only the identity of the company you are creating, but also determines the type of
legal structure your new business will have. This decision is complicated, and possibly the most
important item you will decide when you start a new business venture. There is no single type of
entity that is better than the rest. Your choice will have to be made based upon your requirements and
future desires. There are five commonly used business entities; partnerships, sole proprietorship, C
corporations, S corporations, and Limited Liability Companies. To pick the business entity that will
suit your needs, you should consult a local Tax Preparer or accountant. What Your Entity Will Effect
Choosing a business entity has long reaching considerations. One of the most important aspects of this
choice is the resulting taxes that your business (and you) will have to pay. Each type of business entity
is subject to a different form of taxation. Some entity forms have better opportunities to

Francisco Aguirre Research Paper
The first type of vines that was brought into Chile was the vitis vinifera. The vines was brought to
Chile by the Spanish in the year 1554. The man that they say planted the first wine was known by the
name Francisco Aguirre (H. Johnson J. Robinson, 2005:297 299). The vines that came from Spanish
established vineyards had black grapes and was bought to Mexico by Hernan Cortes in 1520. The
grapes that was being produced that time was cultivated by Jesuit priests, because they used the wine
that was being produced to celebrate the Eucharist. The distribution of black grapes was described in
the 16th century by Alonso de Ovalle that was from Chile (J. Robinson, 2006:163 167). The Spanish

The way that the sweetness of the wine were made was because the wine was boiled and that helped to
concentrate the must of the grapes (J. Robinson, 2006:163 167). Chile s history was mostly influenced
by the French mostly the Bordeaux winemaking. The phylloxera epidemic made Chile deide to import
vines from France. The Chilean Silvestre Errazuriz imported Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Carbernet
Franc, Malbec, Sauvignon blanc and Sémillon. The Chilean went so far as Germany to experiment
with Riesling (H. Johnson, 1989:432 434). In the 20th century the Chileans started to transport wine to
Argentina, but there was too much problems with the transport and they struggled to export wines.
They agreed on building a railway between Chile and Argentina in 1909 that made the transport of the
wine much easier (Lacoste, Pablo. 2004). There came a time in the 20th century were the wine of
Chile was considered as bad quality wine in the 1980s. Chile had great conditions for viticulture
practises and the people realized it and started to invest in the wine of Chile. Chile then became the
third leading exporter of wine after France and Italy ( K.MacNeil,

Multiple Signs Of Infection, Retinal Vascular Sheathing...
Our patient presented with multiple signs of infection, which can t initially be pinpointed to one
disease alone. The three important signs to initially address and understand the science behind are
perivasculitis, retinal vascular sheathing and retinal hemorrhages. All three medical definitions appear
straightforward and all very similar, but the combination of the three leads to a serious diagnosis and
urgency for this patient.
Perivasculitis is an inflammation of a sheath surrounding the tissue 1. In class we discussed the
differences between perivasculitis and periflabitis. Perivasculitis should be white because of the
inflammation and the white blood cells then spilling out. The Prefix peri means around, or on the
outside of the tissue. Retinal vascular sheathing is sheathing or cuffing of blood vessels and vitreous
cells . The swelling or cuffing of blood vessels in the retinal layer is a serious condition and is often
associated with vasculitis. Finally, a retinal hemorrhage is abnormal bleeding of the vessels in the
retina 2. Retinal hemorrhages can be caused for a variety of reasons such as injuries like forceful
blows or accidents and falls, as well as adverse health conditions. We know that the loss of vision can
be largely attributed to the excess debris that is currently located in the eye, the debris being blood that
is leaking out. Our case states that he has no previous trauma however, proving that there is an ulterior
cause to the acute onset of the

Gospel Is The Good News
The word gospel is derived from Old English meaning good news or glad tidings . The Greek word
euangelion which means good message is the the source for the word evangelist. 1.
Mark s Gospel, now considered the first of the synoptic gospels makes no delay in the identification of
who this man, Jesus, is. He is the Messiah, the anointed one, from the Greek word Christos. From the
very first verse of this Gospel, the evangelist knows and proclaims who Jesus is: the Messiah, the Son
of God. 2. Now this evangelist will, through his Gospel, begin a discourse which will allow all the
characters from the disciples to the centurion to realize that Surely, this was the Son of God. Mark 15:

Jesus authority to forgive sins is central to the good news. However, for Mark it is more than
forgiveness. John baptized with water, but the good news of Jesus coming is that he will baptize with
the Holy Spirit which is proclaimed by John the Baptist in verse 8. 7. When Jesus heals the paralyzed
man and then tells him that his sins are forgiven the teachers of the law are incredulous. This is part of
the good news. Jesus has the power to forgive sins however upsetting it is to the religious
establishment.
Mark 1:15 goes up to say to believe in the good news. Belief, faith, is the core of the good news. Mark
9:23 sums it best: Everything is possible for one who believes . Mark 11: 24; Therefore I tell you
whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it and it will be yours . Jesus also shows
the healing power of faith in Mark 2:5,34 and 10:52 as he heals the paralytic man and the woman who
touched his clothes wishing to be healed. He teaches us a valuable lesson in that it was their faith that
healed them which should be an example for us today.
Another motif which is sewn in the fabric of the good news is what William Loder calls the radical
inclusiveness of Jesus or simply put we are all part of God s kingdom . 8. He enlists fisherman, a tax
collector, and the open sharing of a meal

These deficiencies in pro prosecution policies as presently implemented will need to be addressed if
victim endorsement of such policies is to be achieved (MacLeod, 1995). Another deficiency in the
mandatory charge policy is that it further marginalizes and isolates the already disadvantage groups,
especially the minority and immigrant women. Minority women face the same obstacles in leaving
violent relationships as white or cultural majority women money, childcare, housing, transport; but
each of these issues may also carry culturally specific inflections, exacerbated by racism and class

  • 5. Yeats s Interest in Rhythm The purpose of rhythm, it has always seemed to me, is to prolong the moment of contemplation, the moment when we are both awake and asleep, which is the one moment of creation, by hushing us with an alluring monotony, while it holds us waking by variety, to keep us in that state of perhaps real trance, in which the mind liberated from the pressure of the will is unfolded in symbols. (W.B. Yeats) What light does this comment of Yeats shed on his poetry? Feel free in your answer to concentrate on poetic devices other than rhythm if you prefer. Yeats interest in rhythm was deeply tied to the notion of the sound of the earth and nature, and our relationship with the elements. He also had a profound interest and belief in faery, and the ways in which one could transcend material reality in order to reach that world which ran alongside the natural world. Yet Yeats, who was born in 1865 and died in 1939, lived through an era of immense scientific discovery and change. He lived in a world where, by and large, to believe in faery was to be irrational, and the industrial hum of engines prevailed over the quieter sounds of nature. In his earlier poetry, he conveys a certain reverence towards the ancient rhythms of language and nature, flying in the face of the frenetically busy London life he experienced as a young man. • 7. Analysis Of The Book The Scarlet Letter As I began my summer reading assignment I wasn t too amused at the beginning chapters of the Scarlet Letter, With Hawthorne throwing around words like quietude I wasn t sure if it was truly the difference in his old English speech, or if he was tossing in obscure words just to send people looking through their dictionaries to find out if he had, in fact, made the word up, or not. But, as I delved deeper into Hawthorn s work I found a brilliant story with some of the richest characters I had ever had the pleasure of reading about. Of the four major characters in the book, I empathized with Arthur Dimmesdale the most. Dimmesdale is man of God imprisoned by his own beliefs, and because of this he lives his life wallowing in guilt, despair, and pain. Dimmesdale wants to be a father to Pearl, but to do so it would jeopardize his social standing in the Puritan culture and his career. In his confliction, Dimmesdale feels that he should punish himself; he takes away what little humanity he has left just so he can feel he has appeased God. I can t help but feel sorry for a man who lives in such a heartbreaking pool of despair and self loathing. Where Dimmesdale s character really shines, though, is in the Election Day sermon scene and the scenes leading up to the Election Day sermon. After leaving the forest Dimmesdale is filled with new life and motivation. He now has purpose, something to live for. Later, in the third scaffold scene, Dimmesdale ... Robert Burns states this in his famous poem To a Mouse, this is believed to have influenced the title of the novel Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck. The reason this line from the poem influences the novel does not seem apparent at first, but by the end of the novel it becomes clear. This novel focuses on two friends, Lennie and George who are migrant workers in the 1930 s during the great depression. They move from ranch to ranch with each other, which sets them apart from most because they have each other, while the majority of migrant workers travel alone. George is a small man who is smart and responsible, and takes care of Lennie. Lennie is a very large, strong, man, but he is very simple minded, as he is a little mentally challenged. Although Lennie seems intimidating, he is a very nice man and has the mentality of a child. The novel focuses on the dream that George and Lennie have of getting their own farm. This is a very important component of the novel, because presumably, it is the idea of George and Lennie s dream that inspired the novel s title. Steinbeck conveys the message of Robert Burns poem by showing how easily a dream or plan can be shattered. George and Lennie talk about their dream of owning a farm near the beginning of the novel, so we can assume that they have had this dream for quite some time, especially from the detail George includes when telling Lennie about it. Though slow to get rolling, as awareness rises in the community, so do the individual actions. (Akert, 2013) Cognitively based attitudes are based on thoughts and beliefs one has about an object, and this attitude provides pros and cons of an object, so we can decide if we want to be associated with it or not. Affectively based attitudes are based more on people s feelings and values than on their beliefs about the nature of an attitude object. (Akert, 2013) The elaboration likelihood model is the umbrella for this topic, because it explains the two ways in which persuasion can change someone attitude. The two ways are persuasion through the central route and the persuasion through the peripheral route. The elaboration likelihood model refers to processing the message which is related to the cognitively based attitudes. Persuasive communication is most successful in changing attitudes when going through the central route because the audience is motivated, whereas with the peripheral route the audience is not motivated. Now I am going to discuss the routes of persuasion through advertisements in detail. They agreed on building a railway between Chile and Argentina in 1909 that made the transport of the wine much easier (Lacoste, Pablo. 2004). There came a time in the 20th century were the wine of Chile was considered as bad quality wine in the 1980s. Chile had great conditions for viticulture practises and the people realized it and started to invest in the wine of Chile. Chile then became the third leading exporter of wine after France and Italy ( K.MacNeil, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 32. Gospel Is The Good News The word gospel is derived from Old English meaning good news or glad tidings . The Greek word euangelion which means good message is the the source for the word evangelist. 1. Mark s Gospel, now considered the first of the synoptic gospels makes no delay in the identification of who this man, Jesus, is. He is the Messiah, the anointed one, from the Greek word Christos. From the very first verse of this Gospel, the evangelist knows and proclaims who Jesus is: the Messiah, the Son of God. 2. John baptized with water, but the good news of Jesus coming is that he will baptize with the Holy Spirit which is proclaimed by John the Baptist in verse 8. 7. When Jesus heals the paralyzed man and then tells him that his sins are forgiven the teachers of the law are incredulous. This is part of the good news. Jesus has the power to forgive sins however upsetting it is to the religious establishment. Mark 1:15 goes up to say to believe in the good news. Belief, faith, is the core of the good news. Mark 9:23 sums it best: Everything is possible for one who believes . Mark 11: 24; Therefore I tell you whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it and it will be yours . Jesus also shows the healing power of faith in Mark 2:5,34 and 10:52 as he heals the paralytic man and the woman who touched his clothes wishing to be healed. He teaches us a valuable lesson in that it was their faith that healed them which should be an example for us today. Another motif which is sewn in the fabric of the good news is what William Loder calls the radical inclusiveness of Jesus or simply put we are all part of God s kingdom . 8. Pro Prosecution Policy These deficiencies in pro prosecution policies as presently implemented will need to be addressed if victim endorsement of such policies is to be achieved (MacLeod, 1995). Another deficiency in the mandatory charge policy is that it further marginalizes and isolates the already disadvantage groups, especially the minority and immigrant women. Minority women face the same obstacles in leaving violent relationships as white or cultural majority women money, childcare, housing, transport; but each of these issues may also carry culturally specific inflections, exacerbated by racism and class position (Berman, 2001).
