WWF - Getting Aotearoa on Track for <1.5ºC
In the next 30 minutes, we will explore:
• Where we are now, in the climate crisis
• Environmental justice and climate justice
• Three stories of hope for Aotearoa
©EdHawkins
• The world is at 409.15 ppm of CO2 now
• Emissions rose in 2017-2018, after flattening
from 2014-2016
• Per person, Aotearoa is one of the 30 biggest
emitting nations
• In absolute terms, 130 countries emit less
than us
The difference between 1.5ºC and 2ºC is the
difference between:
• Tens of millions of people being driven from
their homes – or hundreds of millions, or billions
• 70-90% of coral reefs dying – or over 99%
• Existence for some countries – or non-existence
