WANTED: PARTICIPANTS FOR THE NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD
EXECUTIVE DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM CLASS OF 2011

Area of consideration: All Permanent Norfolk Naval Shipyard Employees, GS-12 (or equivalent)
Applications must be received by NNSY Code 100PI on or before 4 February 2011.

Program Description:

The NNSY Executive Development Program (EDP) is part of the shipyard’s overall workforce development
strategy designed to prepare employees to be more competitive for key leadership positions within the com-
mand. It combines a variety of professional development and experiential learning opportunities through short-
term rotational assignments within NNSY, at the other naval shipyards, and at NAVSEA Headquarters (includ-
ing the possibility of U.S. Navy Ship Repair Facility, Yokosuka, Japan). The duration of the program is planned
to be approximately six months. The Class of 2011 is scheduled to begin on 1 March 2011. Selectees will
continue to be paid and have travel supported by their home department, but will be assigned to Code 100PI for
the duration of the program.

Qualification Requirements:

The program is open to full-time permanent NNSY employees who are at the permanent GS-12 or equivalent
wage grade level and up (for at least one year) who are committed to furthering their professional development
and are willing to invest the time and energy needed for professional and personal growth. Applicants must
be sponsored by their supervisor and department as evidenced by supervisory and department endorsements
included in their EDP Application Package. For 2011, we are looking to select one candidate from C200, one
from C2300, one from Production, and one from a Support Code (if possible).

Method of Evaluation:

Applicants will be rated on their experience, training, knowledge, skills and abilities, and demonstrated leader-
ship potential. Education and awards will also be considered in the rating process. Eligible candidates will be
ranked by an evaluation panel and the most qualified applicants based on this ranking will be interviewed by the
selection panel before final selections are made. Note: this is not a merit promotion announcement. This is a
detailed assignment for those selected and as such is not governed by merit promotion rules.
How to Apply:

Interested applicants must submit a completed NNSY EDP Application Package electronically (or hard copy
via the NNSY Guard Mail system to Code 100PI, Building M32, Ground Floor, and Attention: Fred Salanitro).
Applications must be received, either way, no later than 4 February 2011. If sending electronically, forward ap-
plication package, including any scanned documentation to alfred.salanitro@navy.mil.

The application package must include:

(a) NNSY EDP Application
(b) Letters of recommendation from the applicant’s first line supervisor and division head or shop/project super-
intendent
 (c) Copy of most recent SF-50 for movement into current position (by promotion, reassignment, etc.)
 (d) Additional documentation required to verify/validate claims in the application narrative as appropriate.
Such documentation may be in the form of training certificates or other information or documents that verify
requested information requested by the application criteria.

Handwritten applications will not be accepted. The EDP Application Package may be obtained from NNSY
Code 100PI or by emailing alfred.salanitro@navy.mil to request the application.

For further Information:

Contact Mr. Fred Salanitro, NNSY Performance Improvement Director at 396-2646, 651-
7684 (cell), or email alfred.salanitro@navy.mil.
