Architectural design involves three key elements according to Vitruvius: utility, firmness, and delight. Architecture is the design of buildings and spaces for human needs using science and technology with aesthetic qualities. Design is both a process and a product, aiming to create a plan of action to achieve desired characteristics. Architects transform needs into conceptual designs and plans for buildings to be constructed by others. In architectural education, project-based learning is used where students work on complex, open-ended tasks simulating real-world problems to learn the interdisciplinary nature of architecture.
