Memos Are used for In-house purposes only Relay a history of the company Safer to “put it in writing” Are less formal than letters Should be direct, clear, and should get to the point in an organized way Should be accurate (dates, response, etc) Memos: Confirm Suggest Request Explain Report
Memos When should you not write a memo? In a hurry Confidential Too long Can handle it in person Time is an issue Too complicated
When you can’t think of how to start a memo! Always start with the line: “The purpose of this memo is…” You do not have to use these words. Use these words to help you get started in your thought process. Very safe way to start
