2. Compare the Management theory advocated by FW Taylor and Henry Fayola. Which theory, you
feel is more suitable in Hospital Management? Why?
Answer : Revolution of the 19th Century has paved the way to the development of an organized
systematic approach to management. In the classical approach, there are two main subgroups:
Scientific management of Frederick Taylor and general administrative theory of Henri Fayola.
TAYLOR’S CONTRIBUTIONS
I. Time and motion study : Under this, he measured each motion in respect of
the time, with the help of a stopwatch. Thus he could arrive at a standard measure

ii. Differential payment. Here a worker was paid at a lower rate for standard production and at a
higher rate if he exceeded the standard.
iii. Drastic reorganization of supervision

3. Define Organization; discuss the characteristics, importance and its significance.
Answer : Meaning of Organisation:
Organisation is the foundation upon which the whole structure of management is built. Organisation

structure or mechanism (machinery) that enables living things to work together. In a static sense, an
organisation is a structure or machinery manned by group of individuals who are working together
towards a common goal. Alike 'management', the term 'organisation' has also been used in a
number of ways. broadly speaking, the term 'organisation' is used in four different senses: as a

5. Write about Maslow's need of Hierarchy and Herzberg Two Factor Theory.
Answer : Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs Theory
It was in 1943 a Psychologist Mr. Abraham Harold Maslow suggested his Theory of Human
Motivation. His theory is one popular and extensively cited theory of motivation. Maslow's theory is
based on the Hierarchy of Human Needs. According to Maslow, human behaviour is related to his
needs. It is adjusted as per the nature of needs to be satisfied. In hierarchy of needs theory, Maslow
identified five types / sets of human need arranged in a hierarchy of their importance and priority.
He concluded that when one set of needs is satisfied, it ceases to be a motivating factor. Thereafter,
the next set of needs in the hierarchy order takes its place. These needs in hierarchy can be
compared to a pyramid. At the lowest level, there will be first set of needs which can be described as
basic needs and are universal in character. This will be followed by other sets of needs.

Maslow's Pyramid of Human Needs
