ECOSYSTEM COLLABORATION PLATFORMA PLATFORM THAT ENABLES ORGANIZATIONS WITH SIMILAR MISSIONS TO MOBILIZE RESOURCES AROUND PROJECTS OF MUTUAL INTERESTThe Facebook For Socially Entrepreneurial OrganizationsSuresh Fernandosuresh@strat-insight.com
Content of this PresentationThe Facebook For Socially Entrepreneurial OrganizationsThe Focus of the following is:Describe Vision and Concept for the Ecosystem Collaboration Platform (slides 4 – 10)Make Explicit what the User Interface Paradigm is with specific mock ups (slides 11 – 23)
The ProblemPotential Redundancies: different organizations are working on similar projects but are not aware of each other’s efforts.Inefficient Deployment of Resources: resources for socially entrepreneurial organizations scarce and must be deployed judiciously.Inefficiency: Due to lack of visibility into what other groups with similar objectives are doing, opportunities for increased efficiency are lost.Inability to Mobilize: There are times when it is appropriate for organizations to collaborate around specific initiatives and to generate strength in numbers. This is difficult if a proper infrastructure to connect groups does not exist. The Facebook For Socially Entrepreneurial Organizations
The Facebook For Socially Entrepreneurial OrganizationsThe Solution: Enabling Collaboration Between OrganizationsDevelop Infrastructure that enables collaboration by:Making projects that organizations want to collaborate on visible: Open ProjectsProvide an infrastructure that makes it easy to connect and organize with others in different organizations.Provide an infrastructure that makes it as easy as possible for volunteers to engage on projects; Make requirements visibleMake meetings, leadership structure etc. visible
The Facebook For Socially Entrepreneurial OrganizationsThe Solution: Stimulating Collaboration Between OrganizationsDevelop Infrastructure that stimulates collaboration by:Building a Meta Project Management Structure into the platform:
Mission, Goals, Leadership, Timelines and Tasks
Automating reminders that ensure that Projects move forward
Reminders about: completing meta structure, meetings, conference calls etc. – the system can just send email reminders.
Develop Open Information Systems
Organizations can centralize research and information.
Organizations can think collaboratively using wiki’s, for example. The Facebook For Socially Entrepreneurial OrganizationsWhy Connect Socially Entrepreneurial Organizations? Why Socially Entrepreneurial? As opposed to private sector organizations there is no principled reason why organizations that are driven by issues (ie. ‘fight climate change’) should not collaborate. Why Organizations? Bringing about social change will require developing strength in numbers. Connecting organizations that have similar missions around specific projects will result in generating the critical mass necessary to effect policy changes.
The Facebook For Socially Entrepreneurial OrganizationsKey ConceptsEcosystem: A system of existing relationships between organizations.Visibility: The ability of people to see the projects they can participate in, the connections between people and organizations, the information flow etc. Openness: The ability for people to originate and participate in projects that try to engage as many people and organizations as possible.Virtual Teams: Infrastructure designed to build and manage globally distributed teams.Real Time Interaction: Absolutely essential for building trust with Virtual Teams.Hybrid Model: This platform should not be considered a technology ‘pure play’. It will be developed in a manner that adds value to already existing relationships between organizations.
Services LayerClientClientClientService Delivery LayerOrganizationPartnerPartnerSupport LayerSupport: Financing, VolunteersThe Facebook For Socially Entrepreneurial OrganizationsWhat is an Ecosystem?‘An ecosystem is a system whose members benefit from each other's participation via symbiotic relationships.’All socially entrepreneurial organizations have other organizations that they work with regularly. These organizations form a set of natural relationships; an Ecosystem
Platform Development StrategyRollout One Ecosystem at a time: We will roll the platform out within a particular Ecosystem. The advantage of this is that the initial functionality that is developed will solve a clearly articulated market problem.Keep Architectural Considerations Regarding Ecosystem Connectivity At Forefront: Even though we will develop the platform one Ecosystem at time, we will keep in mind that the larger objective must make it possible to connect different Ecosystems. The Facebook For Socially Entrepreneurial Organizations
Financial ModelSoftware as a Service: The objective would be to offer a solution that is hosted independently and offered on a subscription basis to participating organizations. It is premature to speculate on precise pricing details. The Facebook For Socially Entrepreneurial Organizations
