Quality management system
 A quality management system is a formulized system that
documents processe, procedures, and responsibilities for
achieving quality policies and objective.
 A QMS help to coordinate and direct an organization' s
activities to meet customer and regulatory requirements and
improve its effectiveness and efficiency on a continuous
basis.
QMS Principles
Any Organization can benefit from implementing ISO 9001
as its requirements are underpinned by 8 management
principles.

 ISO 9001:2000–QMS: Standard Requirements
 ISO 9004:2000–QMS: Guidelines for performance
 ISO 9001:2000–QMS: Standard requirements for
application in a dairy plant and others.
 ISO is an independent, non-governmental international
organization with a membership of 168 national
standards bodies.
 The ISO 9000 family is a set of five quality management
systems (QMS) standards that help
organizations ensure they meet customer and
other stakeholder needs within statutory and regulatory
requirements related to a product or service.
 ISO 9000:2015 –Quality Management Systems
 ISO 9001:2008- QMS- Requirements (required for certification .
 The ISO 9000 family contains these standards:

 ISO 9001:2008 specifies requirements for a quality
management system .

It was published in September 2005.
Its objective is to establish a single food safety standard,
applicable by any business in the food industry, by
integrating the existent food quality and safety
management systems, and thus to offer a firm basis for
consumer trust.
ISO 22000:2005 ‘Food safety management systems .
 This organiation in the food chain’ can be used by
different subjects in the food chain, from animal feed
producers, plant and cattle breeders, to food
manufacturers, transport and storage operators,
retailers, to suppliers of additives and ingredients, food
processors, producers of packages, chemicals, sanitary
and other material.
 Quality standards means those specifications which are laid
down by the Govt or some expert body constituted by the
Govt. for the purpose of producing high quality products.
 In our country, we have two types of quality standards
1-BIS/ ISI standards
2-Agmark standards
 The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) is the national Standards
Body of India working under the aegis of Ministry of Consumer
Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, Government of India.
 It is established by the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 1986
which came into effect on 23 December 1986.
 BIS/ISI standards deal with many types of processed food
products , apart from non-food products .
 BSI mark For for food colors and additives, vanaspati, containers
for packing, milk powder and condensed milk .
 Protecting customers from dangerous products.
 Promoting consumer confidence.
 Providing a safeguard to the public health.
 Providing quality assurance
 AGMARK, or Agriculture Mark, is the certification mark to
assure the quality of agricultural products in India.
 It is legally enforced in India by the Agricultural Produce
(Grading and Marking) Act of 1937.The headquarters of
AGMARK is in Haryana.
 AGMARK standards deal with many types of foods, mainly with
the raw agricultural produce. For example: cereals, oils, oil seeds,
spices, eggs, legumes (pulses), ghee,butter,etc. .
