- 2. Here’s what you need: ● Textbook with MyLabsPlus code: Basic College Mathematics with Early Integers, 3rd Edition, by Bittinger & Penna ● LOTS of scratch paper! ● Pencils ● Basic 4-function calculator (Scientific calculator NOT needed until Math 60)
- 3. Log in to Blackboard Click on Blackboard
- 4. Open Math 20 class from list
- 5. Click on Course Content
- 6. Week 1 has two parts: Week 1A - Class Overview - Start Here First! Week 1B - Getting Started on Math
- 7. Week 1A Overview ● Important information you need to succeed ● Includes important initial activities
- 8. Week 1B - Getting Started with Math Each Week covers multiple Sections, e.g. 1.1 and 1.2 Weekly list of Sections
- 9. Week 1B - Getting Started with Math Each Section has several learning activities, such as ● Vocabulary ● Instructional Video ● MathLabs Homework ● Discussion ● Printed Worksheet Learning Activities
- 10. Week 1B - Getting Started with Math Each Week has a Quiz, plus a Test every 3 weeks Weekly quiz

Planning for Success Plan Your Work ● Calendar and Syllabus provide framework and due dates ● Food for thought: If this were a face-to-face class, you would spend 4 hours per week in class PLUS homework PLUS time commuting and parking ● To be successful in an online class you should: ○ Set aside at least 2 hours 4-6 days per week (yes, really!) ■ Night owl or earlybird? Does one of these work for you? ○ Use the course calendar and your work/life schedule to create a plan on a calendar on paper or phone/computer ○ If you can’t study one day, divide that time into the next two days

More Success Strategies ● Watch MyLabsPlus videos then read text--or the other way around ● Do the problems BOTH online and in the book! ● Do MyLabsPlus Homework AFTER watching video and reading ● DO ADDITIONAL PRACTICE: Use MyLabsPlus StudyPlan and/or text ● Need Help? ○ Use the Tutoring Center on closest campus ○ Schedules: bit.ly/rcctutor ○ Email or call me (see Syllabus) ● DO NOT “put things off”! ● Take Weekly Quizzes WITHOUT a calculator* ● PLAN AHEAD FOR TESTS--See Course Calendar
- 16. Due Dates The downloadable course calendar, found in Week 1A on Blackboard, is designed to help you successfully complete the course. Also: ● MyMathLabs lists due dates for Homework and Quizzes ● Blackboard lists due dates for Tests. Note: ● Quizzes are ONLINE via MyMathLabs ● Tests must be taken in the RCC TESTING CENTER you chose at initial meeting. Calculators may NOT be used on Quizzes or Tests. ● Link to the Testing Center Hours: bit.ly/rcctestcenter ● Final must be taken by Thursday, June 15; Testing Center is CLOSED ON JUNE 16
