• #2: The intent of this presentation is to introduce the audience to virtualization and our academic programs. Depending on what the audience knows or their interest some parts may be skipped.
• #3: I don’t read these bullets – instead I tell the audience I will be speaking about the history of virtualization and how it benefits users and what we are doing to advantage education.
• #4: The bullets speak for themselves, but I usually emphasize that even in a down economy companies invest in our products even if they don’t invest in other things because they receive almost an instant return on their investment. The other aspect is the new paradigm of Cloud Computing and the future it holds. The purpose of talking about the pilot schools is to demonstrate the overwhelming adoption and how students are drawn to our courses because they know it will help them get employed.
• #5: This is a bit dated now, but still true. The point to make is that VMware and virtualization saves companies $ and the return on investment is almost immediate.
• #6: Everyone in VMware knows this story and you can expound on it as you wish.
• #7: Once you can encapsulate workloads in their entirety and easily and transparently move these live workloads around without interruption and then you add: Dynamic resource optimization to evenly spread the load out across the available hardware <click> The ability to automatically restart applications following failures <click> The ability to add capacity on demand and have it automatically be utilized by the infrastructure The result is the realization of the Utility Computing vision, the on-demand, always on datacenter. Virtual infrastructure provides these ground braking capabilities, and based on the wave of customer adoption we have seen so far, Gartner has dubbed virtualization “the most impactful trend in infrastructure and operations through 2010”
• #8: Here I talk about the components of virtualization and how our products span the gamut from server consolidation to serving individual users with products like View.
• #9: This is a place to emphasize how VMware manages high availability by making the hardware independent from the operating systems and applications.

• #14: This is where to tell the story of how we support education. It is not just one program or service, but a set of enabling programs. The Academic program supports collaborative curriculum and software development as well as providing free licenses for teaching and research. GoVirtual is a collaboration website that VMware has developed to allow sharing between education institutions as well as industry. The VMware IT Academy is how we make our training IP available for educational institutions who want to teach using our curriculum.
• #15: The message here is that everyone is advantaged. People often find our programs too good to be true and want to know what the ‘catch’ is. We have studied the job market and found that there are many thousands of jobs available that require a VCP credential. The people we train commercially usually already have jobs so we are not filling the gap in the job market. By engaging educational institutions they will graduate students that know and proficient on our technology which will enable employer to hire them and deploy our solutions.
• #20: We offer a ‘superset’ of ILT courses. The reason for this is that IT Academy students don’t always have the background necessary to immediately take a course that leads to certification. Sometimes it is best to deliver the Overview course and Workstation course to familiarize them with the technology. I also tell them that the may make up their own syllabus and mix and match different ILT courses as well as eLearning. We respect our IT Academy schools as educational professionals and don’t tell them how to teach. What we do is to help them acquire the necessary knowledge about VMware and virtualization to make them effective in teaching about it.

• #23: The point here is that the entry requirements are not tough. We only want to exclude commercial training companies who would go head to head with our commercial training. The only requirements are that the instructors obtain their VCP certification with equivalent scores to our instructors and that they teach according to the academic calendar i.e. not in a week or less like we do commercially.
• #24: We give schools everything they need except the hardware – after all we are a software Company. Schools get our economy of scale which enables them to purchase books directly from our print vendor at about 1/3rd of what it would cost from a normal publisher and certifications directly from Pearson VUE.
• #25: We provide train-the-trainer eLearning, provide a mentor to guide them, give their instructors a free exam voucher so that they can get their VCP credential, give them access to the private instructor VMTN pages and VATC portal so they have everything our commercial instructors have to make them successful.
• #26: This is how we keep score and let’s them know that their success is our success and how we measure the program. It also conveys that we are serious.
