The Orphan
- 1. THE ORPHANPlot:A husband and wife who recently lost their baby adopt a 9-year-old girl who is not nearly as innocent as she claims to be.

The tragic loss of their unborn child has devastated Kate and John, taking a toll on both their marriage and Kate’s fragile psyche, as she is plagued by nightmares and haunted by demons from her past. Struggling to regain some semblance of normalcy in their lives, the couple decides to adopt another child. At the local orphanage, both John and Kate find themselves strangely drawn to a young girl named Esther. Almost as soon as they welcome Esther into their home, however, an alarming series of events begins to unfold, leading Kate to believe that there’s something wrong with Esther–this seemingly angelic little girl is not what she appears to be. Concerned for the safety of her family, Kate tries to get John and others to see past Esther’s sweet facade. But her warnings go unheeded until it may be too late…for everyone.
- 3. Una familia, compuesta por la madre, Kate (Vera Farmiga); el padre, John (Peter Sarsgaard) y dos niños (una niña sordomuda y un niño algo hiperactivo) han pasado momentos difíciles en el pasado. La causa principal: la madre perdió un bebe. Luego de superados los problemas subsecuentes a este triste hecho, los padres sienten que tienen tanto amor para dar y, como deseaban de todo corazón tener un hijo más, deciden adoptar.Pero no quieren adoptar a un recién nacido, sino a una niña para que juegue y haga compañía a sus hermanitos, en especial a la hija sordomuda. Es así que llegan a un orfanato y ven a todos los niños jugando, pero una niña que está en el segundo piso pintando y cantando les llama la atención. Su nombre es Esther y ella se encariña rápidamente con John, por lo que deciden adoptarla.Al inicio todo parece marchar a la perfección, pero poco a poco Esther comienza a manifestar actitudes que se van haciendo más y más macabras, y parece ocultar un terrible secreto de su pasado, el cual será revelado casi al finalizar la película.Una buena película de suspenso, en la que la pequeña actriz IsabelleFuhrman, de tan solo 12 años, se luce con una interpretación sólida y por momentos espeluznante. Quién diría que esa carita de niña tierna puede ser capaz de hacer cosas tan atroces en el film.
