We have spent years laying the foundations step by step for Towards IPOS. I am really excited that we are heading into an implementation phase now to start supporting States with concrete and practical solutions for their ocean sustainability objectives. Action is what is needed for the ocean 🌍
Towards IPOS – Milestones Achieved, New Horizons Ahead 🌊 Over the summer, Towards IPOS (International Platform for Ocean Sustainability) has been hard at work and we’re excited to share updates and what’s coming next. The months ahead will mark important steps in strengthening our ability to serve States and safeguard the ocean. Here’s where we are: 🔹 Extended Deadline for Service Requests – Thank you to the States that have already submitted a request. A new deadline for submitting IPOS Service Requests is set for 15 October 2025 to give more States the chance to participate. A practical guide is now available to help States navigate the process. With transparency measures, diversity targets and conflict-of-interest safeguards, IPOS is setting higher standards for trust and legitimacy in its interim governance. We will be sharing the profiles of the AKC in the coming weeks. 🔹 OceanGPT Pilot – In September, IPOS will publish its third pilot study conducted in collaboration with the Seychelles on pollution and a circular economy approach. Look out for an upcoming manuscript on the development of the IPOSGPT tool. 🔹 New Team Announcements – We’ll also be introducing new members of the IPOS community soon, bringing fresh expertise and energy to our shared mission. 💙 Each of these steps matters: responsibly testing the use of AI, building inclusive and trusted governance, supporting States in accessing services and welcoming new voices to the team. Together, they lay the foundation for a stronger IPOS and a healthier ocean. #OceanSustainability #TowardsIPOS #ResponsibleAI #OceanGovernance
