I studied in the Indian education system. And now, I publish academic books for a living. Our curriculum is rigorous, producing students who are academically strong and globally competitive. But having seen it from both sides, I believe there are three subjects that deserve a more permanent place in our classrooms - not as electives, but as essentials: 1) Financial literacy: Budgeting, saving, understanding taxes and investments are basic life skills. Every student, regardless of stream, should learn how to manage money smartly. 2) Vocational training: Simple, practical skills such as fixing a lightbulb, sewing a button, repairing everyday items build confidence, self-reliance, and respect for skilled work. 3) Quantitative & logical reasoning: Thinking critically and approaching problems with structure are essential skills. It also gives students an edge in exams such as CAT, GMAT, SAT, and GRE. The addition of these subjects will prepare students for life. And that, at its core, is what education should aim for. #education #academia #academicpublishing
