🚧 Approved: Lithuania launches Investment Highway for strategic investments Lietuvos Respublikos Seimas just approved the Investment Highway initiative, which significantly reduces the time it takes for large-scale investment projects to move from decision to construction. Here’s what’s changing: ✅ Project approval and preparation timelines will be cut by more than half. ✅ Construction-related procedures will be streamlined and simplified. ✅ Corporate tax incentives will be tied to actual results. Invest Lithuania will serve as the central coordinator for major local and foreign projects, ensuring smooth cooperation across public institutions and proactively resolving roadblocks. As Minister Lukas Savickas emphasizes, this initiative aims to enable major projects to break ground within months and reach completion within one to two years. Here are more details. ➡️ https://lnkd.in/d2hjdS4h

  • 🌿 Lithuania's years of consistent efforts in renewables are standing out. According to Eurostat, in 2024, Lithuania generated 75.8% of its electricity from renewable sources, ranking it among the top performers in Europe. That's nearly double the EU average of 41.7% and ahead of many still shaping their path. Solar and wind are no longer the future, they're the present. The EU has set ambitious goals: 42.5% of renewables in the total energy mix by 2030, more than double the current share of 19.5%. Achieving this won't come easy, but it's a collective effort of consistent progress and raising the bar. 📈

  • 🔋 Lithuania will install over 4,000 MWh of electricity storage capacity nationwide. Supported by the Lietuvos Respublikos energetikos ministerija and EU recovery funding, these large-scale energy storage projects will: ✅ Stabilise the national grid ✅ Enable smarter use of renewable electricity ✅ Boost long-term energy resilience With 50+ applications, the submitted projects aim to install over 1,700 MW of power and more than 4,000 MWh of electricity storage capacity facilities, collectively worth more than € 840 million. Renewables are becoming central to our energy mix and storage is the missing piece for flexibility and long-term reliability. 🍃

📈 Ten years ago, most GBS centres came to Lithuania because of the cost. Today, they stay for something entirely different. GBS & ICT operations now cover an increasingly diverse and complex range of services - delivered by Lithuania's hard-working and expectations-exceeding professionals. That's why names like Moody's Corporation's, Unity, Nasdaq and Continental have expanded their presence here. Here's more about how Lithuania made this leap. ⤵️ https://lnkd.in/dhnugX6G

  • 💡 In 2011, three Lithuanian brothers returned from Germany with a vision to establish a semiconductor company. Brolis Semiconductors initially focused on semiconductor manufacturing and development. But following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2014, the company pivoted to defence applications. Since then, they have leveraged Lithuania’s talent and infrastructure to become a key player in the country’s defence industry. Today, the company provides cutting-edge MilTech solutions to 35 NATO members and allies, playing a key role in safeguarding both regional and global security. 🛡

  • 🧭 Signals of progress from stories that stood out in July. Lithuania showed continued strength in the areas that define long-term resilience: scientific credibility, smarter regulation and growing global recognition. Here’s a look back at the month’s most noteworthy news: ⭐️ Prof. Urtė Neniškytė secures a €2M ERC grant – her team will explore how sugar molecules affect brain development. ⭐️ Ieva Plikusienė (Phd, prof.)ė joins UNESCO's top science board – a historic first for Lithuania. ⭐️ €44M biotech investment from Pentasweet – the company will build a natural sweetener production facility in Lithuania. ⭐️ Updated Fintech framework adopted – a new, risk-based model makes Lithuania more agile in regulating fintech, reducing compliance for low-risk businesses. Each story reflects a different layer of progress. Together, they point to Lithuania’s growing credibility across multiple landscapes. 🌍

  • ⚡️ Lithuania crossed a threshold in its green energy. In Q2 of 2025, Lithuania's electricity generation from local sources grew by 50%. Over 90% of our electricity needs were covered by domestic production, most of it coming from renewables. Compared to the same time last year: 📈 Wind power grew by 59%. 📈 Solar energy grew by 43%. 📈 Total electricity from renewables reached 1.9 TWh, up 42%. These numbers are the result of long-term investment delivering measurable outcomes, resulting in less dependency on imports, better energy security and a more resilient system overall. As production increases, the next logical step is to ensure balanced energy storage. Lithuania is heading towards clean and reliable homegrown energy. 🌱

  • ⭐️ From battlefield-tested drones to swarm intelligence - Lithuanian tech earns recognition. It’s not every day that a country of under 3 million makes it into a global Top 100 list in defence innovation - this year, two Lithuanian companies did that. In The Defense Post’s 2025 ranking of the world’s most advanced drone defence firms, Lithuanians stand shoulder to shoulder with major international players. 🛡️ Unmanned Defense Systems – #60 UDS develops drone platforms and battlefield software designed to work as a seamless ecosystem. Their SwarmC2 system enables drone swarms to operate with precision, even in signal-denied environments. 🛡️ Granta Autonomy – #77 With former military engineers on the front lines of development, Granta builds compact, silent UAVs, capable of covering 160 km in radio silence. Congratulations and thank you for showing that Lithuania is capable of building high-impact capabilities in a space once reserved for defence giants. 🙌

Prof. Plikusienė’s inclusion in this 12-member board is both recognition of her scientific excellence and a significant step forward for Lithuania’s visibility and voice in global science policy. Wishing the professor a successful term within the international scientific community! 👏

  • 🛰️ From a university lab in Vilnius to building one of Europe’s largest satellite orders. In 2014, a group of engineers at Vilnius University launched one of Lithuania’s first-ever satellites. That project sparked the founding of Kongsberg NanoAvionics. A space-tech company that’s now designing small satellite buses and delivering end-to-end missions for NASA, MIT, Thales Alenia Space and others. In 2022, NanoAvionics joined forces with Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace. Just three years later, it secured a €122.5M contract to build 280 satellites for SpinLaunch - one of Europe’s largest satellite manufacturing orders to date. From a university lab to orbiting constellations, NanoAvionics is a bold example of Lithuania’s space-tech ambitions and possibilities.
