🏦 Very insightful briefing this week at Latvijas Banka given by Uldis Rutkaste, Head of Monetary Policy Department and Accompanying Person to the ECB Governing Council. Commercial Counsellor Thomas Spazier had the chance to participate in an excellent overview given by the central bank expert and a deep dive into the region’s macroeconomic outlook together with representatives from other EU member states based in Riga. Topics ranged from inflation trends and monetary policy to regional investment dynamics. For Austria’s foreign economic presence in the Baltics, this kind of direct exchange is key: it strengthens our understanding of local developments and opens doors for targeted cooperation in finance, innovation, and trade. The conversation covered a wide area of economic and cultural activities carried with the support of ADVANTAGE AUSTRIA and Austrian companies active in the Baltics. Exploring Youth Perspectives Across Europe ✨ Today, Commercial Counsellor Thomas Spazier exchanged views with Austrian journalist Katharina Pirker from Kronen Zeitung, currently in Latvia as part of the eurotours 2025 research mission — a project of the Bundeskanzleramt Österreich, supported by the Österreichische Medienakademie and carried out in cooperation with the European Commission – Representation in Austria and the European Parliament – Liaison Office in Austria. This year’s theme — “Youth in Europe – Generation Confidence?” — explores how young people across Europe are driving change, the conditions that shape their engagement, and the impact of AI, disinformation, and security on their perspectives.
