In 2024, more than 85 % of all EU bathing waters were rated "excellent" and 96 % met at least the minimum quality standards, according to the European Environment Agency. 🔝 Austria stands out with 95.8 % of its bathing sites classified as "excellent", placing it among the very best in Europe! ⚡ New milestone in e-mobility: From 2026, postal deliveries in Vienna will be fully electric. Around 700 e-vehicles are in use for Österreichische Post AG in Austria's capital already today. By the end of the year, another 400 e-vehicles will be added, making the fleet fully electric. At full scale, over 1,500 postal workers will be on the move every day in a climate-friendly way - on foot, by e-bike, e-moped, or e-van. This will enable CO2-free delivery to more than 2 million residents from 2026. With this complete switch to e-mobility, 𝗩𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗻𝗮 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗼𝗹𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗿𝘆 𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗱𝗲𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗹𝘆 𝗲𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻-𝗳𝗿𝗲𝗲. ❄️ Austrian Arctic Research Station goes into operation, focusing on Arctic climate change. In East Greenland, about 3,700 kilometres from Graz, the University of Graz has been running the Sermilik Research Station since 2024. Until now, it was only in test mode. Over the last few weeks, the station was fully set up and is now ready to host up to 26 researchers and students from different fields. According to the station's director, physicist and polar researcher Andreas Trügler, the first guests will arrive in August, including scientists from Vienna, Denmark, and Norway, as well as students from FH Joanneum in Graz. Before the station could officially open, a lot still had to be done this summer: finishing the inside of the building and installing solar panels and battery systems for power. Apart from a few dark days in January, the station will run entirely on sunlight. Diesel generators will only be used as a backup. The site was originally run by the University of Copenhagen. Since 2022, it has been expanded with a new building by the University of Graz, with support from Austrian entrepreneur Christian Palmers, a descendant of the founder of Palmers Textil AG. The university has made climate change and how to deal with it one of its main research goals. It is currently the only Austrian university that runs a research station in the Arctic. The station is open to scientists from all fields who study the cryosphere - the frozen areas of our planet - and the many questions and problems linked to it. __________________________ Enjoyed this Post? Founded in 1991, the family-owned Münzer Bioindustrie GmbH turns used cooking oils, liquid waste, and other recyclable materials into valuable resources, driving decarbonisation in transport and industry. 🌱 World's first hydrogen-based rail and cycle path made from "green" asphalt: Austria shows how sustainable mobility works! 🚆 Travelling by train is climate-friendly - and even more so on a hydrogen-based rail. The Austrian Federal Railways ÖBB recently laid the first of its kind, made by voestalpine from scrap and hydrogen-reduced pure iron. 🚴♀️ The state of Burgenland now has Austria’s first cycle path made from CO2-storing "green" asphalt. Developed in cooperation with PORR Group, it contains around 5% biochar, produced from agricultural residues such as broken reeds.
