    Farringdon is unique; it’s where London’s two biggest transport improvement programmes, Thameslink and Crossrail, will meet to create London’s newest transport hub.

    From 2018, the revamped north–south Thameslink route will meet the new east–west Crossrail service, linking with existing Tube connections. With up to 24 trains an hour running in each direction on Thameslink and Crossrail, plus the Tube, Farringdon will be served by over 140 trains an hour. .

    From 2018, the revamped north–south Thameslink route will meet the new east–west Crossrail service, linking with existing Tube connections. With up to 24 trains an hour running in each direction on Thameslink and Crossrail, plus the Tube, Farringdon will be served by over 140 trains an hour. .

    On December 2011 the new ticket hall, future proofed for Crossrail services, opened to allow for the first 50% longer, 12 car trains to enter service. The new ticket hall also provides dedicated access and ticketing services for Thameslink customers.

    The original London Underground station was built in 1863 as the terminus of the world’s first underground railway. As Farringdon has become a more popular destination it has become increasingly overcrowded. The layout of the original station restricts the number and length of train services it can accommodate. Cowcross Street is actually a bridge and to make way for longer trains the bridge was demolished and rebuilt under people’s feet. To make way for more frequent Thameslink services the original London Underground station was remodeled to accommodate more passengers with a new footbridge, roof extension and concourse on Turnmill Street. The station will also be fitted with lifts, making it step-free for the first time.
