Last week, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security expanded its crackdown on forced labor by designating steel, copper, and lithium as new "high priority" sectors for UFLPA enforcement. Our Chief Science Officer and Co-Founder, Peter Swartz, recently told Reuters that AI enables the world's largest enterprises to purge their product value chains of exposure to forced labor. "AI is an enormous boon,” Peter said. "It provides the ability to unify information that couldn't be unified at scale before, and to understand what goes into what, at scale. Then, AI provides the ability to actually triage and act upon those insights.” ➡️ Full story: https://lnkd.in/eiXVqzye

Last week, our team attended an AIAG member's North American sustainability summit to show OEMs and suppliers the power of our Product Network. Our VP of Trade, Amy Morgan, spoke about how collaboration between buyers and suppliers across trusted, multi-tier product value chains makes it possible to avoid costly border delays and detentions and meet the standards of AIAG - Automotive Industry Action Group's Forced Labor Due Diligence Reporting Template. Our commitment is to help automakers, OEMs, and suppliers overcome compliance, resilience, and tariff challenges for a secure, profitable North American auto supply chain.

Altana is helping the auto industry eradicate forced labor and set a new standard for ethical sourcing. With Altana's Product Network, OEMs can collaborate with suppliers to trace and validate their product value chains and gather documentation to prove compliance with the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act (UFLPA).
Today, six major automotive manufacturers—Ford, General Motors, Honda, Nissan, Stellantis, and Toyota— have come together in a joint letter to suppliers, requiring a unified industry approach to forced labor due diligence through the AIAG Due Diligence Reporting Template (DDRT). This industry collaboration provides a single standardized reporting tool alongside access to trusted risk screening solutions and training resources, helping suppliers meet evolving global regulations and new OEM requirements—all available through the AIAG Forced Labor Due Diligence Program. Starting September 2025, select suppliers will be required to report forced labor risks and assessments through the DDRT, with broader supplier participation phased in by mid-2026. This alignment simplifies compliance, reduces duplicated efforts, and strengthens supply chain transparency. At AIAG, we’re proud to help facilitate this industry-wide commitment. Because when leaders speak as one, the path forward becomes clearer for everyone. August should be for vacations—but for most business leaders, this summer feels defined by a new wave of tariffs and supply chain uncertainty. Tariffs may be the crisis du jour, but the bigger story is how fast supply chain risk and planning demands are outpacing manual solutions. Mapping product value chains by hand and pulling ad hoc reports for every CEO ask? Too slow, too narrow. That’s why the smartest companies are turning to AI-powered trade intelligence. Altana and Databricks don’t just give planners deep visibility into tariff costs and supply continuity risks—they empower analysts to blend global value chain insights with internal data, then run scenario planning just by asking questions in natural language. The result? Supply chain teams move from reactive reporting to proactive risk management—20 times faster deployments and actionable clarity when the stakes (and the disruptions) couldn’t be higher.
