Arquitina
Civic and Social Organizations
A national non-profit organization with a mission to raise the 1% of licensed Latina architects in the US.
About us
Arquitina is a professional leadership and licensure initiative for emerging Latinas in the field of Architecture. We are multicultural Latinas and we are passionate about architecture and the built environment. There are just over 121,000 licensed architects in the United States, 17-20% are women and 1.7% are Latinx Women. Why the disparity? Women of color experience lack of recognition and representation both in academia and professional practice, which affects career trajectory. While close to 50% of women are earning degrees in Architecture and earn licensing requirements 1.2 times sooner than men, women only represent about 17% of firm principals and or partners. A 2019 NCARB report shows that non-white candidates are 25% more likely to fall off the path of licensure. This is due to disparity in wages, promotions and recognition. Racial and gender diversity shows an improvement along all early career stages. However, the numbers indicate that Latina/x women remain under the 1% of licensed architects. Although the exact number of Latina/x Women is unknown, it is clear that we contribute and advance the profession as architects, engineers, planners, construction managers and sustainability professionals. Arquitina was created on an ethos of “lift as you climb”. Mentored by Latina/x Architects and allied professionals that support equity and inclusivity in the architectural profession, Arquitina candidates can receive the mentorship, encouragement and resources necessary to clear the path of licensure, and pursue a successful career in architecture. 💫 💫 💫 The future generation has never looked brighter! 💫 💫 💫 See and you shall be has proven to be a winning formula with our mentors at Arquitina and the authors of Latinas in Architecture - Stories of raising the 1% of licensed Latina architects in the US Vol I and Vol II. In 2022, several third grade girls participated in an architecture and urban planning workshop with mentors from UC Berkley's Y-Plan and Youth in Arts. They learned about design, scale, and structure while taking on challenges posed to them by community leaders. Over three years they generated proposals for affordable housing, created gateways and bridges to college and responded to impacts of climate change. The result of the proposals was their own publication!! "Young Girls in Architecture: Stories of our lives and our hopes for the future". Yes! Thank you to Patricia Alarcón, Architect and Author of Volume II, for sharing this beautiful project with us. Our stories, mentorship, representation is truly creating a ripple effect of inspiration from coast to coast. Just 5 years ago the number of licensed Latina architects in the US was less than 1% and now we are just over 2%. We are incredibly grateful to our mentors, allies and our growing number of supporters. We are rephrasing "How can I be if I cannot see?" to "I see therefore I CAN be." #representationmatters #mentorshipmatters #architect #architecture #latinasinarchitecture #movetheneedle #seesepuede #liftasweclimb

Happy Friday just got happier! Your support is helping to move the needle in raising the percentage of licensed Latina architects in the US. In 2020, National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB) published that Latinas were less than 1% of licensed architects in the country. As of 2025, we are 2% and slowly increasing that number. We have amazing mentors! The power of Lift as you Climb is so impactful. Join us in congratulating Elizabeth Morales in becoming a licensing architect! Join us for our annual celebration this Friday, September 5th. https://lnkd.in/gdiSTzZB #mentorshipmatters #representationmatters #raisethe1percent #movetheneedle #liftasweclimb #womeninarchitecture #latinaarchitects

Thank you Clemente Nicado and your rising Publication Negocios Now for featuring the women designing and building our cities. Arquitina is in great company with fellow contractors and developers! #liftasweclimb 💪🏽
Who’s Who in Hispanic Business? That’s the question I asked myself when I launched Negocios Now 18 years ago—and it became the seed that grew into our Who’s Who in Hispanic Business edition, first published in 2014. This year, we’re proud to profile—for the first time ever—50 Latinas in Construction, along with dozens of outstanding Hispanic leaders in Law, Business, Corporate, Nonprofit, Government, Elected Office, and Finance. 👉 I can't wait to meet many of them in person at our upcoming Who’s Who in Hispanic Business Gala, taking place July 25 at the historic Old Post Office in Chicago. https://lnkd.in/gBPkRkan

If you’re a recent alumnus who would like to focus on research while diving into early practice, this could be for you. Applications are due August 11, 2025.
