AMWA's Top MMB Article: House and Senate Appropriators Approve Dueling EPA Funding Bills: Read full issue: https://lnkd.in/eZQ32ASE Last week, both House and Senate Appropriations Committees advanced their FY26 Interior & Environment bills, setting the stage for critical negotiations this fall. The House retained deep cuts to the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) at 23 percent and Drinking Water #SRF at 20 percent. The Senate took a more measured approach; EPA #funding would see a 7 percent cut, while SRF funding holds steady at FY25 levels. Notably, Senator Jon Ossoff (D-Ga.) secured a $10 million boost for the Reducing Lead in Drinking Water grant program, bringing its total to $32 million. The Association of Metropolitan Water Agencies (AMWA) had previously engaged with the Senator’s staff to advocate for this essential program, which helps utilities replace lead service lines. The association applauds Office of U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff for their efforts. Other highlights include: ➡️ Both bills include level funding $2.25 million for EPA’s Midsize and Large Drinking Water System Infrastructure Resilience and Sustainability Program. ➡️ #WIFIA sees a 12 percent reduction in the Senate bill; House proposes level funding. Congress faces a September 30 deadline to finalize FY26 #appropriations, or pass another continuing resolution to avoid a shutdown. AMWA will join coalition partners in sending letters en masse to Members of Congress in September, urging robust support for #water #infrastructure #investments. Contact AMWA by August 29, if you are interested in writing a letter to your member of Congress.
