This morning at the World War II Memorial, we pause to honor the courage and sacrifice of those who stormed the beaches of Normandy 81 years ago today. On D-Day, more than 160,000 Allied troops crossed the English Channel to begin the liberation of Europe. Among them, 4,414 made the ultimate sacrifice, including 2,501 Americans. Today, we remember their valor and reflect on the price of freedom. Photo by Chris Johnson

This Memorial Day, and always, we remember and honor the service members who made the ultimate sacrifice for our Nation’s freedom. Their courage, dedication and sacrifice will never be forgotten. As we gather with loved ones this weekend, may we also pause to reflect on the true meaning of this day. Photo by Pearl Harbor National Memorial

This weekend is more than a three-day break or the unofficial start of summer. It's a time to reflect on the bravery and sacrifice of those who gave their lives in service to our country. National memorials like the Vietnam Veterans Memorial offer space to gather, mourn and honor the fallen. As we enjoy the freedoms they protected, may we also take time to honor those who made it possible. Photo by National Mall and Memorial Parks

Today, and every day, we pause to honor the brave law enforcement officers who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. National Park Service Ranger Kevin Grossheim was a devoted law enforcement officer, emergency responder, and beloved member of the community—a husband, a friend, and a protector. On the morning of October 6, 2024, he responded to a distress call and safely brought a family of three aboard his vessel. Amid rough waters and high winds, the boat overturned. The family made it safely to shore, but Ranger Grossheim went missing. His body was located after an intensive three-hour search effort. Ranger Grossheim served with the National Park Service for 31 years, including more than two decades at Voyageurs National Park. He was deeply respected by colleagues and community members alike. He is survived by his wife and cousin. Though his watch has ended, his sacrifice will always be remembered. EOW 10/6/24

U.S. Department of the Interior reposted this
The U.S. Department of Justice launched Operation Not Forgotten, a major initiative to address violent crimes in Indian Country. For the next six months, 60 FBI personnel will work alongside the Bureau of Indian Affairs and tribal law enforcement to bring justice to Native communities. The BIA's Office of Justice Services Missing and Murdered Unit will play a critical role, partnering with Tribal communities and using advanced forensic technology to solve cases and hold offenders accountable. This effort represents a powerful commitment to protect Native lives, recover the missing, and deliver justice to those who have been waiting far too long. 📰 🔗 ➡️ https://lnkd.in/ejcrRpRG 🔴 🔗 ➡️ https://lnkd.in/gQFExm5X
