🌍 The United Nations have declared today #WorldLakeDay! 👊 FutureLakes is taking action for lakes by: 🦢 Supporting lake communities to protect and restore freshwater biodiversity 💡 Demonstrating new solutions to reduce pollution (check out our recently published review of innovative solutions and our partner IRIDRA website for NbS tools) ♻️ Developing circular and blue economies through restoring lakes. 🌊 What a fantastic first #MissionLakes webinar! Yesterday, we brought together experts from across the four Mission Ocean sister projects — FutureLakes, ProCleanLakes project, FERRO Project, and EUROLakes — to share cutting-edge approaches to lake restoration in celebration of the upcoming #WorldLakesDay. From nature-based solutions to sediment dredging and the 4 Returns Framework, the insights were both inspiring and practical. Huge thanks to all our speakers (Laurence Carvalho, Laura Härkönen, Mara Nilca, Anca-Iulia Stoica, Martin Søndergaard and Anne-Marie Klamt) and participants for making this a great event. The Mission Ocean is short for «Mission To restore our oceans and waters by 2030». Sadly, the (fresh)waters part of the Mission has almost been forgotten, yet there are a few notable project exceptions providing examples of how to deal with freshwater challenges in circular modes.
