Last night, the NAACP Center for Health Equity joined forces with the Greater Cleveland NAACP and prominent voices in the health industry to discuss the impact of heart and cardiovascular diseases on the Black community. Together, we sparked important conversations, shared actionable solutions, and discussed the steps we can take toward building a healthier, more equitable future for our communities. This is just the beginning. The health of our communities is in our hands. We must keep fighting. Chris T. Pernell, MD, MPH, FACPM

Sixty years ago today, the Voting Rights Act of 1965 was signed into law, a monumental step toward ensuring every American, regardless of race or background, could exercise their right to vote. But today, that progress is under attack in Texas and other states across the country. We must act now to protect the promise of free and fair elections. Join us in urging Congress to fight for us. https://lnkd.in/g-2Q42QK

Heart and cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of death in the U.S., disproportionately impacting communities of color. Beyond a health issue, this is a civil rights and social justice issue. The NAACP Center for Health Equity is partnering with the Greater Cleveland NAACP to address health disparities and champion a healthier, more equitable future for all. It’s time to move beyond the statistics and take action. https://lnkd.in/gSQ3658F

Award-winning Graphic Designer + CEO of Pinch Design Co.

In 2018, I found myself feeling trapped and unhappy in my desk job. I had bravely applied for a graphic design position, pouring my heart into the application and almost pleading for an opportunity, only to be met with the disappointment of being told I lacked the necessary experience—experience I was desperately trying to acquire. But in 2019, the NAACP opened their doors for me, and that moment changed everything. Over the past six years, I’ve been blessed beyond my wildest dreams. I’ve created magazine ads for The New Yorker, Vanity Fair, and GQ, seen my designs come to life on billboards in Times Square and Washington, DC, spoke on a Webby Awards panel, fully designed four conventions, and won three Davey Awards. Each milestone has been a testament to the journey I embarked on, and receiving the Medgar Evers Award has profoundly solidified my commitment to the NAACP. I am eternally grateful for this incredible opportunity to utilize my talents in service of such a vital mission and to promote awareness on important issues. More than anything, I am profoundly thankful for my amazing team. They have stood by me, provided unwavering support, guidance, and encouragement every step of the way. Together, we have created magic. Here’s to me, to my journey so far, and to the beautiful beginnings that still lie ahead! ✊🏽🏆🖤🙏🏽

Today, at the U.S. Capitol, Senators Raphael Warnock and Dick Durbin reintroduced the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act (#JLVRAA) just days before the 60th anniversary of the Voting Rights Act of 1965. “Sixty years ago, our nation took a bold step toward justice by passing the Voting Rights Act of 1965. Today, that progress is under siege.” —NAACP President and CEO Derrick Johnson As a faithful supporter of the JLVRAA since its inception, we urge Congress to pass this critical legislation to honor the legacy of #JohnLewis and protect the integrity of our democracy. #VotingRights #CivilRights #Democracy

What an incredible conversation with my friend and colleague in the nonprofit space Dana Snyder on the importance of shifting and evolving your brand to meet the need of your customer base. We had an amazing talk a few weeks ago at SubSummit about the NAACP’s bold shift and how we’ve redefined advocacy. Take a listen! https://lnkd.in/edbSU4Uf
