🚨 1 in 4 severe maternal complications happen more than 4 months after birth. Our new research in Cureus shows why postpartum care must extend well beyond delivery and why 12 months of Medicaid coverage can save lives. From sepsis to heart failure to postpartum depression, ongoing access to care means healthier moms, stronger families, and more equitable outcomes. Maternal health is year-round health. https://lnkd.in/giQzmSTT

Maternal health doesn’t end at delivery — and neither should our care. Our new study, Severe Postpartum Maternal Morbidity: How Medicaid Coverage for 365 Days Can Make a Difference, reveals that serious and life-threatening complications often occur well beyond the traditional six-week postpartum period. In fact, 25% of severe maternal morbidity cases happen after 131 days postpartum, with conditions like sepsis, heart failure, and acute renal failure leading the list. Extending Medicaid postpartum coverage to a full year is more than a policy, it’s a lifeline. This ongoing coverage creates opportunities for proactive case management, mental health support, chronic condition monitoring, and ultimately, healthier outcomes for mothers and families. Let’s continue to support and invest in year-long postpartum care, close coverage gaps, and give every mother the chance to heal, thrive, and care for her family. • August marks National Breastfeeding Awareness Month, a time to pause and celebrate how far we've come in supporting mothers and babies since the U.S. officially recognized this observance in 1991, when broader public conversations around breastfeeding were only beginning to take root. Since then we’ve seen: ✅ Workplace protections put in place for nursing parents ✅ Greater awareness of the health benefits of breastfeeding – for both parents and babies ✅ Expanded access to lactation consultants and community support programs Virtual care is also helping to make expert breastfeeding guidance more accessible. Many of our affiliated ObGyn practices partner with organizations like SimpliFed, an online baby-feeding support platform that provides access to helpful resources and board-certified lactation consultants. We know there is still important work ahead, and Unified remains committed to supporting optimal health outcomes for women and families everywhere. #BreastfeedingAwareness #MaternalHealth #WeAreUnified

  • This summer the A Woman's Place Naples practice team rolled up their sleeves to help families in Southwest Florida. They held a bundle packing party and gathered donations for Beverly's Angels – a non-profit that provides supplies for women and children in emergency situations. The effort was part of our Summer of Service volunteer initiative, which encourages teams to work together to support their local charitable organizations. Thank you to all the Unified community members who are stepping up and making a difference across the US! 🫶 #WeAreUnified

  • “What makes Unified unique is the culture of collaboration and the belief that we will rise by lifting each other up. I’ve grown through shared wins, tough lessons, and being surrounded by people who genuinely care.” – Meredith Pegg As Meredith approaches her 11-year anniversary at Unified, her story is a powerful reflection of what’s possible when you're contributing to a mission you believe in and you're surrounded by people who bring out your best. From project manager to her current AVP role, her path has been shaped by curiosity, adaptability, and deep respect for the team she works with. “There’s not a single defining moment for me,” she says. “Each project pushes me to think differently, to build trust quickly, and to deliver outcomes that truly matter.” Above all, Meredith credits her team for her growth. “I am who I am because of my incredible team. Success is not a solo journey. We are all committed to learning, growing, and thriving together.”    So, why has she chosen Unified for over a decade? “It’s truly because of the people I work with. To find an organization where you’re passionate about the mission and vision and also get to collaborate and learn from people who inspire you every day, that’s what keeps me going.” We celebrate Meredith's career and the meaningful impact she’s made for our organization, and for women, over the last 11 years!
