Sisters Project Peru is a nonprofit initiative co-founded in 2020 by sisters Maya and Natalie Koehn-Wu. The project aims to enhance healthcare access for the residents of Huacahuasi, a rural village in Peru’s Sacred Valley. In collaboration with local organizations like Yanapana Peru and FNE International, the initiative focuses on constructing a Level 1 medical clinic in Huacahuasi. Sisters Project Peru is a nonprofit initiative co-founded in 2020 by sisters Maya and Natalie Koehn-Wu. The project aims to enhance healthcare access for the residents of Huacahuasi, a rural village in Peru’s Sacred Valley. In collaboration with local organizations like Yanapana Peru and FNE International, the initiative focuses on constructing a Level 1 medical clinic in Huacahuasi. This clinic will provide essential healthcare services to the community and surrounding areas, addressing challenges such as malnutrition, anemia, diabetes, and maternal health issues. 

The founders’ connection to Huacahuasi began during a 2019 visit, where they observed both the village’s cultural richness and its healthcare challenges. Motivated by this experience, they established Sisters Project Peru to support the community’s self-determined efforts to improve healthcare accessibility. 

In August 2024, the organization conducted a service trip that included anemia screenings, organizing greenhouse cooperatives, and dental hygiene programs. These activities reflect their ongoing commitment to addressing the community’s healthcare needs. 

Sisters Project Peru also engages with educational institutions, such as the University of Virginia and Maggie Walker Governor’s School, to involve students in fundraising, awareness campaigns, and volunteer opportunities. These collaborations aim to foster a broader understanding of global health issues and encourage active participation in humanitarian efforts.  

Through these initiatives, Sisters Project Peru strives to create sustainable healthcare solutions that empower the Huacahuasi community and improve their quality of life. Show less
