Independent International Scientific Panel on AI is born In 2023, the United Nations launched the High-Level Advisory Body on Artificial Intelligence, a temporary group of global experts tasked with exploring how to govern AI responsibly. Their work culminated in the 2024 report " Governing AI for Humanity " (link in the first comment), which laid out a visionary framework for inclusive, distributed, and transparent AI governance. In 2025, the UN General Assembly took a decisive step forward by establishing the Independent International Scientific Panel on AI: 🔹 A permanent body of 40 experts with three-year mandates 🔹 Charged with synthesizing scientific evidence on AI risks and opportunities 🔹 Supporting governments in making informed decisions 🔹 Hosting an annual global dialogue, starting with Geneva in 2026 💡 What’s the key difference? The 2023 body was advisory and temporary, focused on shaping ideas. The 2025 panel is institutional and operational, built to implement and guide policy over time.
