Tonight we kicked off Session 1 of our 2-part masterclass: Understanding the NCC and How to Apply AS3740:2021 – Internal Wet Areas. Presented by Byron L. and Brendan Byrne, with support from Chris Rashleigh, this session dived deep into why wet areas remain one of the biggest sources of building defects — and what the NCC/AS3740 actually requires. Some key takeaways: 🔹 Performance solutions without hard evidence are a legal and technical trap. 🔹 Falls to drains aren’t optional — if water can’t flow, you’re already non-compliant. 🔹 Mixing products across systems is still one of the most common failure points. 🔹 A compliance certificate is meaningless without evidence of the process. This isn’t about ticking boxes. It’s about building wet areas that last. If you missed tonight’s session, Session 2 is happening next week: 📅 Wednesday, August 27th 🕖 7:00–9:30 pm AEST Link in the comments

Are you being short-changed by shortcuts? The Building Safety Act 2022 introduced the “Golden Thread” — a requirement for accurate, accessible, and up-to-date information throughout a building’s lifecycle. It’s not just a box-ticking exercise. It’s about accountability, transparency, and trust. That’s where CCPI (Code for Construction Product Information) steps in — ensuring product data is clear, verifiable, and not misleading. If you’re working with dry lining systems, your supplier should be meeting this standard. Are they? #BuildingSafetyAct #GoldenThread #CCPI #trustmetsec

Scaffold compliance shouldn’t be a guessing game. Builders and subcontractors often play cat and mouse over what’s “safe enough”, but when the outcome is either compliance or catastrophe, there’s no grey area. That’s why we built a scaffold compliance checker. One tool. One search bar. Instant answers. Because compliance shouldn’t come down to opinion. Follow for more construction insights ✅

Thanks to the folks at Webcor for hosting us! The CFI (Center for Innovation) event restored my faith in the industry as a whole: it turns out people really do care about safe construction practices. Barry Nelson of FactorLab, Inc., Gabe Guetta of SALUS, and Douglas J. Rubingh of HammerTech gave us some insights: 1. Safety is cultural Mistakes appear in the nuanced spaces between worker engagement and planning conversations. 2. Stilted information sessions don't work When people are forced to memorize a list of practices, they zone out. Give people the tools to look for information when they need (and want) it. 3. Data can prevent injuries You can target specific issues-- only once you identify what your organization's issues are. Aggregate data, conversations, safety incidents, etc. PS: you can do this all out of the box with Fresco (YC F24)

At the recent SFS and SFPE Joint International Conference on Holistic Design, one message stood out: Fire engineering needs to be part of the conversation from the very beginning. But how do we make that happen? In a world where cash is king, it’s really about value. We need to show those in hot seats the benefits of engaging fire safety professionals early. But first, here’s what I’ve learned about compliant design and its impact on value: ✅ It’s not always cheaper ✅ It’s not always better ✅ It’s not always legally safe (inc. from other legislation) To me, the real value of early engagement with a fire engineer is: 🤝 Building strong relationships 💡 Getting quick, informed advice 🛠️ Resolving issues before they become showstoppers 📈 Progressing design with confidence And even if a Performance Solution isn’t required, that's ok. Fire engineering isn’t just about fixing problems; it’s about creating better solutions, better designs, and better outcomes. If you're curious about what early engagement can do for you, feel free to reach out. Intuitive Consulting Pty Ltd #FireEngineering #HolisticDesign #BuildingSafety #EarlyEngagement
