At an Xpanse Connect & Chargebee pricing strategy roundtable yesterday, the conversation turned (again) to outcome-based pricing. My take: in most cases, it’s just usage pricing with a marketing degree… The problem: outcomes are hard to measure, validate, and contract at scale. That slows down deals instead of accelerating them and creates friction at every stage of the customer lifecycle. Usage models succeed when the metrics are transparent and trusted.
