🌏 Mega GCCs to GVCs: Scale that earns a seat at the table 🗨️ “Scale always helps you get a seat at the table. When you have 20–30% of your employees in India, it’s an important location for the company. If you want to do partnerships with academia or startups, those conversations become a lot easier.” — Pari Natarajan, CEO & Co‑founder, Zinnov 🗨️ “Mega GCCs would have every single function and every single product available in India… If I’m head of engineering, I can walk across to customer support or implementations and say, tell me the problems you are facing and let me put that into my backlog.” — Sheenam Ohrie, Country Managing Director, Broadridge India 🗨️ “Scale and value go hand in hand… Scale is also an amazing talent retention engine because you are then in a position to offer a variety of different roles within the organisation.” — Pankaj Vyas, MD & CEO, Siemens Technology and Services 🗨️ “Scale gives fungibility… Our core banking business does cybersecurity work in India, and we leverage the same capabilities across our businesses. If those were in a different entity, we’d have to reinvent the wheel.” — Sachin Kulkarni, President, Fiserv Global Services 🗨️ “Over the last four or five years, we’ve seen more leadership roles transition to India… particularly in R&D and digital—most recently across sustainability, operations, resilience, and regional leadership.” — Chitra Sukumar, SVP, Digital, Data & IT, Schneider Electric - #GCCs at “mega” scale are no longer just capability centers—they’re becoming Global Value Centers (GVCs). - A #GVC owns end‑to‑end functions, drives innovation, and creates enterprise‑wide impact beyond cost or scale. - This shift marks India’s tech hubs as value powerhouses shaping strategy, not just executing it. Shared Global Capability Centers (GCCs) enable mid-sized companies to access advanced capabilities, skilled talent, and technology infrastructure without the need to invest in dedicated, wholly owned centers. These shared or multi-tenant models allow multiple companies—often mid-market firms—to run operations (such as R&D, analytics, digital transformation, finance, and HR) within the same center, minimizing upfront costs and management complexity while benefiting from the scale and innovation of a larger operation. For companies that do not want to set up a dedicated GCC, the most common alternatives are: Shared Services Model: Multiple companies utilize common resources, infrastructure, and talent pools within a single center, typically operated by a third party or consortium. This is distinct from the traditional outsourcing or BPO model, as the focus is often on more strategic and niche functions—such as AI, cloud engineering, and advanced analytics—providing greater flexibility and innovation than legacy shared services. GCC-as-a-Service (GCCaaS): Emerging providers offer "GCC-as-a-Service" platforms, where mid-sized companies can quickly onboard through modular, plug-and-play models. These models manage everything from strategy formulation to execution and scale-up, significantly reducing the barriers to entry for smaller firms. Key advantages for mid-sized companies using shared GCCs include: Access to skilled, in-demand talent (engineers, data scientists, business strategists) Lower upfront and maintenance costs compared to a dedicated GCC Flexibility to scale operations up or down rapidly without significant investment Faster digital transformation, as companies can tap into existing technology stacks and process frameworks Exposure to leading practices in innovation, governance, and sustainability Challenges may include leadership alignment, limited decision autonomy when compared to a dedicated GCC, potential concerns over data privacy, and ensuring adequate quality and integration between client companies. India has become a prominent hub for both dedicated and shared GCCs, offering mature infrastructure, experienced providers, and a large talent pool. Many mid-sized firms—especially those with revenues from $100 million to $1 billion—are leveraging these options as a way to compete globally without the overhead of building their own centers from scratch. Shared GCC models are thus an increasingly popular solution for mid-sized companies aiming for cost efficiency and innovation, without assuming the risk and capital demands of a dedicated GCC.
