I'm grateful for the work of Senator Laura Wakim Chapman, Joe Funkhouser, Amy Smith, DDS, MS, Governor Patrick Morrisey and others who worked to shape WV Senate Bill 710, defining an appropriate role for teledentistry in West Virginia. At the national level, the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine has released updated standards, and Kevin Postol's recent article in the American Academy of Sleep Medicine’s Montage highlights the direction of care in this space: "Teledentistry is here to stay. But in dental sleep medicine, it is not an end-to-end solution. With clear standards in place and qualified dentists at the forefront, we can move forward with both innovation and accountability, ensuring that patients recieve care that's convenient, effective and safe."

A couple of weeks ago, I had the privilege of attending a Multidisciplinary Airway Management Workshop presented by Cheerful Dental. It was an invaluable opportunity to learn alongside experienced health professionals about the complex interplay between airway issues, malocclusion, sleep, dentofacial development, and speech—and why an interdisciplinary approach is essential for supporting children and families. The speakers each brought unique insights from their fields: Angela Nikolas (Speech Pathologist) – highlighted the impact of oromyofunctional disorders on speech production, with practical strategies for assessment and treatment. Dr. John Rosa (Orthodontist) – emphasised the importance of early orthodontic intervention and its role in shaping healthy facial, jaw, and dental development. Dr. Virginia Oliveira (Paediatric Sleep Specialist) – shared her expertise on how airway function affects sleep quality, and how thorough assessment and intervention can change outcomes for children. Dr. Elina Castro (Dentist) – explored how airway issues and malocclusions can influence multiple senses, broadening our understanding of their wide-reaching effects. This workshop reinforced for me how vital it is that we, as clinicians, work together across disciplines. By combining expertise, we can provide more comprehensive, evidence-based care that truly addresses the whole child. A big thank you to Cheerful Dental for hosting such an engaging and insightful event. I left inspired and even more committed to fostering collaborative care in my own practice. #ProfessionalDevelopment #MultidisciplinaryCare #AirwayManagement #OrofacialMyology #SpeechPathology

Candid video of the impact you can have on a patient. As dentists, we’re not just in the business of fixing teeth—we’re in the business of saving lives and strengthening relationships. Sleep apnea and snoring affect millions, leading to serious health risks, lower quality of life, and even broken relationships from “sleep divorce.” Here’s the exciting part: dentistry has the power to change that. With the right training, any dental practice can screen and treat sleep apnea and snoring using simple, proven systems that require no expensive equipment to get started. That’s why I created the RAD Sleep Program—to teach dentists and their teams how to: ✅ Screen patients effectively for snoring and sleep apnea ✅ Use turnkey systems that make medical billing and referrals seamless ✅ Deliver treatment that not only helps patients sleep better but also grows practice revenue, self-worth, and patient loyalty Adding sleep apnea treatment isn’t just another service—it’s a transformational shift for your practice, your patients, and your purpose. If you’re ready to make a bigger impact while growing your practice, let’s connect. Stay Rad, Dr. Rad

Want a dental practice that pays you for life, not just for your time right now? This is how you make it happen: 1️⃣ Year 1: Nail two simple but critical things. Do them well. (1) Obtain your own dental sleep medicine contracts. (2) Build a strong system and surround yourself with reputable experts. 2️⃣ Years 2-3: Turn that foundation into momentum. You should be hitting 20 or more cases per month. You’ve created a practice that’s not just sustainable, it’s saleable. Picture this: You sell your general dental practice. You transition into only dental sleep medicine during your early retirement. And then you sell that sleep medicine practice too. For millions. Why? Because you called your own shots. You signed your own contracts. You built real equity. You created real value. That’s not theory. That’s what we’ve seen our clients achieve over 16 years of billing for dentists. No smoke. No mirrors. Just results.

Most of us think of it as simply "being put to sleep," but in reality, anaesthesia comes in different forms—each carefully chosen to keep patients safe, comfortable, and pain-free. ✅ General anaesthesia – deep sleep for major surgeries ✅ Spinal anaesthesia – blocks sensation in the lower body ✅ Epidural anaesthesia – pain relief during childbirth and certain operations ✅ Peripheral nerve block – numbs a specific limb or area ✅ Local anaesthesia – numbs a small area for minor procedures What’s remarkable is how personalised this process is. The choice depends on the type of procedure, patient health, and recovery needs. Anaesthesiologists quietly ensure safety, comfort, and peace of mind in some of life’s most vulnerable moments. Anaesthesia is not just about putting patients to sleep—it’s about waking them up safely. #Healthcare #Anaesthesia #PatientCare #Medicine #Inspiration #Learning

AFAICT, For surgeons, they often get the spotlight. Scalpels, sutures, outcomes, they’re what people see. But let me be real: in the OT, there’s one person who literally decides whether I operate on a ‘living’ patient or end up with, well… dead meat. The Anaesthetist. Their role seems ‘mild’… sit behind the monitors, push a few meds, regulate gases. But trust me, that calm presence is what keeps chaos away. One delay. One misstep. One inattentive second. And all his surgical skill means nothing. Anaesthesia is not just science, it’s vigilance, intuition, foresight. It’s holding a human between consciousness and oblivion, pain and safety. And here’s what ppl don’t always know: ‘you DO have a CHOICE In who puts you to sleep.’ GTK #Dr.Nikita Patil(Jenny’s best friend) Don’t just ask about “who’s the surgeon?” ask also about “who’s the anaesthetist?” Anaesthesia isn’t just ‘put to sleeP’ It’s constant vibes check on life itself. Pain, relief. Chaos and control. Surgeons get the spotlight. But tbh… the real MVP in the OT? The Anaesthetist. Big respect Silent, invisible, but absolutely indispensable #OTvibes #Anaesthesia
