8 Things we Learned About Power
Last week, participants once again made their way to a collective Zoom screen from across the country for our monthly Story Circle. This one focused on the topic of POWER. As always, we appreciate their generosity with their stories and wisdom.
The topic of POWER generated a wide variety of stories and a rich discussion. We spent some time reflecting on everything that had been shared. Here are some themes we noticed after taking time to reflect:
- Behind power conflicts are values.
- It's important to ask "who has the power in this situation?"
- There are different perspectives around what power is and where it lies.
- It can be impactful to consider how "control" and "power" are similar and different.
- If we aim to "empower," we must ask: can we empower others? Is there a limit to how much power we will "tolerate" in others?
- Power dynamics exist within community and impact how these dynamics play out.
- Bees do "the wave!"
- Quantum physics = empathy.
- And finally...consider: What stories about power don't we tell?
Feel free to share any stories you might have about your relationship or experience with power (or the lack thereof) in the comments below.
You can also take our survey and let us know what topics you’d like to explore in future Story Circles. The next one is schedule for June 14, and will cover the very timely topic of BEGINNINGS! Space is limited so please register now if you'd like to join and share a story on BEGINNINGS: http://bit.ly/storycirclebeginnings
