Discover simple, effective tips to make your resume stand out to recruiters and land more interviews.
Here’s the first tip…
🏆 Own your achievements without apology in interviews 🏆
Some candidates try so hard to seem humble that they end up minimizing their impact. Confidence isn’t arrogance. It’s about giving your interviewer the full truth of what you achieved. Think of three accomplishments you're proud of and practice speaking about them clearly and proudly.
🧾 If it’s over 10 years old, summarize it on your resume 🧾
Recruiters care most about your recent experience. If a role is over 10 years old, you don’t need to go into full detail on your resume. Instead, create a short “Additional Experience” section where you simply list your title, company, and dates. (This approach is best for non-executive positions.)
🔍 Your resume and LinkedIn should mirror, not match 🔍
Your resume is the place for specifics: detailed accomplishments, metrics, and tailored keywords. LinkedIn, on the other hand, should be a little more general, a little more conversational, and easier to skim. Think of it as the big-picture version that invites people to learn more about you.
📸 Your vibe is part of your brand 📸
Recruiters aren’t just hiring skills, they’re hiring energy, attitude, and presence. More and more, they’re turning to platforms like TikTok, Instagram, and video resumes to see how you show up. A short video can highlight your personality, confidence, and communication skills in ways a resume can’t.
👻 How to spot “ghost” job listings 👻
A “ghost” job listing is one that’s no longer active, even if it still appears online. Save yourself time by checking how old the listing is (skip it if it’s more than 1 month old). Also, check the company’s career page. If the job isn’t posted there, it’s probably off the market, even if it’s still listed on a job board.

Some Thoughts Before You Go…
I just watched an old Robert De Niro interview where he talked about how he would bomb auditions early in his career.
That’s right, Robert De Niro struggled to find work.
He would walk into the room all nervous and self-conscious, and then try way too hard to impress the casting directors.
He said you could feel the tension coming off him, and it was holding him back.
Then he discovered a simple mental trick that changed everything:
👉 He pretended he already had the part.
Instead of trying to "win" the role, he imagined it was the first day of rehearsal, and he was already cast.
And a funny thing happened:
The result? His auditions instantly improved. And he started landing roles.
This same trick can work for your job search.
Walk into interviews, networking calls, even cold emails, as if you already belong there.
When you stop chasing validation and start acting like a peer, people notice.
You’re closer than you think. Keep showing up. 🎬
That’s it for this edition. I hope these tips have sparked some new ideas for your job search.
See you next week!

3moI especially like the reminder about staying confident, morale and mindset. One way I encourage my clients to stay proactive and positive is by following up on rejection emails with a gracious message like: “Thank you for the opportunity to interview. I wish you all the best with the candidate you selected. Please keep me in mind should another opportunity arise, I was truly impressed by [insert specific positive impression about the company, team, or interview experience].” It keeps the door open and helps job seekers feel empowered, not defeated.
