HOW TO MAINTAIN OUR MENTAL HEALTH DURING CHALLENGING TIMES?

We are facing a difficult time due to the Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in the world, which has brought numerous negative consequences and affecting several countries, especially the health of the entire population. Today I would like to raise an extremely important issue in the face of such a challenging moment: How can we prevent social distancing and all the pressure brought on by this disease from affecting our mental health? I believe that the answer to this may involve three factors: Information, support and self-care.

First, we must pay close attention to the information we receive. The biggest challenge is to know what information is accurate. Try to limit your sources, choose the ones that are most reliable and try not to be overwhelmed by the exposure brought by social media. LIMIT THE FREQUENCY AND THE INFORMATION YOU ACCESS.

Another important factor to think about is how we can contribute to helping others. It is time to be supportive and think about the collective. SOLIDARITY is the right word to mention, which means that we must create a psychological sense of unity, think as a group, think about our community and the well being of all. It is an alliance in which we can help and be helped. IT IS A TIME TO GET CLOSER EVEN FAR. Stay connected with family and friends. Ask people if they need any extra help, more vulnerable people will need to be more isolated. You can make a big difference in people's lives simply by checking how they are doing by message, phone or video call.

Last but not least, I would like to emphasize the importance of TAKING CARE OF YOURSELF. Have you ever thought how moments of uncertainty, worry and stress cause anxiety and affect our mental health? We must maximize and pay attention to our personal needs. Are you sleeping well? Are you practicing physical exercises? Are you taking good care of your nutrition? Keeping in touch with the people you love? What are your basic needs to maintain a healthy routine during social distancing? In such a challenging time, with so many questions and afflictions, I strongly suggest that you be kind to yourself. Look for practices that strengthen your mental health, such as meditation, yoga, reading a book, watching a movie, or any other activity that pleases you.

WE KNOW THAT THIS IS NOT AN EASY TIME, SO LET'S HOPE AND DO OUR PART TO OVERCOME THIS SITUATION TOGETHER.

BE KIND TO YOURSELF. BE SUPPORTIVE TO OTHERS.
