Article content

Recruiters & HRs spend just 6 to 10 seconds scanning resumes. That means if yours doesn’t clearly show

  • who you are
  • what you’ve done
  • and why it matters

probably you will miss the opportunity.

I believe if you’re a software developer, QA engineer, data analyst, or any tech professional, this article will help you write a resume that stands out and gets you interviews.

Basic Information Should be Clear and Simple

At the top of your resume, include only the base information:

Pro Tip: A clean, clickable LinkedIn or GitHub link shows you’re serious and professional.

Start With a Strong Short Summary

Think of this as your heart of resume. One simple sentence to show your role, tools, and impact. Summary should be 2–3 sentences and not more …

Software Developer with 3 years of experience.

Full-Stack Developer (React + Node.js) with 3 years of experience building fast, user-friendly apps in agile teams.

Show Your Work With Numbers

Don’t just list what you did. Show how well you did it and what changed because of it.

Use the X-Y-Z formula:

Accomplished [X] as measured by [Y], by doing [Z].

Created login feature for mobile app.

Built secure login system using Firebase Auth, reducing login errors by 40% and improving user retention.

Use Actionable Verbs

Start every bullet point with a strong verb like: Built, Improved, Automated, Led, Reduced, Designed, Migrated

Numbers Speak Louder Than Words

Whenever possible, add metrics. They show real value.

  • Boosted app performance by 35% by optimizing React components.
  • Led a team of 4 engineers to launch a feature used by 10,000+ users.
  • Reduced deployment time from 30 to 5 minutes with CI/CD automation.

Show and Shine Your Skills

Group your skills clearly by category:

Languages: JavaScript, TypeScript, Python
Frameworks: React, Next.js, Node.js
Databases: MongoDB, PostgreSQL, Firebase
Tools: Git, Docker, Jenkins, AWS, Jira

Only include tools you’re comfortable using and are relevant to the job.

If you are not comfortable with any skills or tools do not put on your resume or if you put you should learn.

Keep It Simple Your Education & Certification

If you’re not a new grad, this goes at the bottom.

Include:

  • Degree
  • University
  • Graduation year

Add certifications like AWS, Google Cloud, or Scrum Master here or in a separate section.

Bonus Sections That Add Value

These sections aren’t required, but they can make your resume stand out:

  • Projects: Great for self-taught or early-career devs.
  • Open Source: Shows initiative and collaboration.
  • Volunteering: Highlights leadership or soft skills.
  • Awards & Publications: Adds credibility and uniqueness.

Clean Design Wins

Your resume should be simple, readable, and ATS-friendly.

Standard fonts (Arial, Calibri, Helvetica)

  • Clear section titles
  • Consistent spacing
  • One-page format (unless you’re senior)

Avoid:

  • Photos
  • Tables/columns (they can break in ATS) Use single column !
  • Fancy designs or too many colors

Tailor Every Resume

Never send the same resume for every positions.

You can have more than 1 like maybe 2–3 but not required to for each job descriptions.

Before applying, adjust:

  • Keywords to match the job description
  • Your summary to reflect the role
  • Top skills and bullets to highlight what’s most relevant

Review Before You Send

  • Make sure your LinkedIn matches your resume.

Conclusion

Your resume is not just a list of skills or your life history,it’s your personal brand. It should tell a clear, confident story of what you’ve done and the value you bring.

Keep it:

  • Simple
  • Clear
  • Focused
  • Impact-driven

You’re not just listing tasks. You’re showing results.

Do not forget resume is the first step of Job Hunting but there are more works to be done… LinkedIn optimization, Networking, Visible on Linkedin, Sharing Valuable Content, Find Hidden Jobs, Make real connections and more … (
