Why You Are Not Getting Hired? It Is Not Your Resume, It Is Your Mindset
This story was originally published on Medium.
The biggest barrier is your mindset
Last week, I hosted as a Volunteer for 60 minute webinar on interview preparation. Seventeen people was attending. I started with 2 basic questions.
1- How long have you been on the market, job hunting?
2- What do you think is the biggest reason you haven’t landed an offer yet?
Their answers really made me pause. It wasn’t just interesting, it was a bit sad, to be honest. Most of them have been job hunting for over 9 months, but when I read their reasons, I realized many of them don’t actually see what is really holding them back.
What Is The Real Barrier For Job Seekers
Let me try to explain the some realities my some of you will judge me but I can share some real barriers.
False Mindset
Most candidas think and feel like “ I am NOT ready to apply jobs now, I need to learn this topics, watch this tutorial, build this portfolio project, close knowledge gaps, then will apply”.
But the truth is you will never feel be ready. Because the topics changing very fast and you do not have to have all requirement initially, you need to get JOB first, then grow and learn all required skills.
So change your “False Mindset” ! first.
Do you know what is the biggest mistake that job candidates make ?
They don’t start applying even if they are not ready.
If you start applying you will get:
Each failure will teach you something
Each questions was asked in the pervious interview, will give you the next interview hints.
You will feel more comfortable.
You will realize your knowledge gaps.
So just start applying and keep applying, applying, and applying …
It Does Mean You Are Not Qualified !
Unfortunately, I saw a lot of of people in the job hunting for more than 6 months and no any progress.
It does mean they are not qualified.
Because they are:
Not comfortable
Don’t have strategy
Don’t use their network effectively
Don’t start applying constantly
Do feel like “ I am not ready”
But the truth is “You will never be ready!” as I mentioned above again …
Most Job Seekers Don’t Realize That
1 month delay for finding job what does it mean.
It does mean :(
At least 5K less income for the US.
Get less experience
Miss better opportunity
Feel less confident by the time
Lose your hope.
Companies Are Looking For Not Just SMART Employees
They are looking for someone who has :
Strong soft skills
Able to train peers
Able to get work done on time
Accept their mistakes
So you don’t have to be smart but you should have Soft Power.
I hope you don’t put it off until tomorrow. Start today.
