July 2025 - Innovation for impact: How can AI empower everyone?

At Lenovo, we’re proud to push the limits of AI and lead its deployment at every scale, from individual to enterprise. Yes, we embrace the pell-mell pace of AI development and constantly marvel at what’s on the horizon. As our own Luca Rossi said, we may only be reaching one percent of AI’s potential

But we also know that how and why we innovate can matter just as much as the technology itself.

As AI becomes more powerful and more present in our everyday lives, it’s our responsibility to make sure it serves everyone. That means making it more ethical, more inclusive, and more empowering—especially for underrepresented communities. That’s the crux of our vision to deliver smarter AI for all

AI for Good Global Summit

Part of how we make that vision a reality is by engaging with non-profit partners, brilliant collaborators, and other orgs committed to unleashing the power of technology for good. That’s precisely what brought us to the AI for Good Global Summit in Geneva earlier in July. It’s the United Nations’ premier platform for advancing AI in support of sustainable development, covering everything from governance to assistive technology. The consensus from attendees? It was inspiring, motivating, and a glimpse into a better future.

“Things that were only dreamt about in the past are now a reality, like solutions for people who need spoken language support or augmented vision for people with vision loss,” wrote Santiago Mendez Galvis, our head of corporate citizenship for EMEA. “The AI for Good wave is certainly here, offering a new reality for human potential.”

Lenovo attendees joined panels, acted as judges for social impact awards, and supported the efforts of our partners. They also did a lot of listening to see how our global reach and end-to-end AI portfolio can be deployed in new ways.

Two Lenovo projects were also spotlighted: the Brazilian sign language translation solution Libras and the integrated communication suite for people with ALS developed with the Scott-Morgan Foundation. This work literally raises voices that might otherwise be silenced.

(These multi-year collaborations even opened Lenovo’s Tech World events in 2023 and 2024, with real users of each technology welcoming our CEO, Yuanqing Yang, to the stage.)

Our friends at Tech to The Rescue were also in attendance, blazing a path for global tech leaders and local teams to leverage AI for social impact. They’ve been fantastic at identifying and elevating the work of grassroots organizations

Beyond that summit, Lenovo continues to develop pioneering proofs of concept shaped by the communities they help, as seen in our Alzheimer’s Intelligence avatar and ongoing Work for Humankind initiatives.

“With huge advancements in AI and smarter technologies, now is the time to explore and pilot creative new ways to use technology like AI thoughtfully and responsibly, for the greater good,” said Doug Fisher, Chief Security and AI Officer at Lenovo. “Ultimately, it’s about re-imagining a future where technology is for—and from—all, giving everyone a voice in what they want from the most transformative technology of our generation.”

Accountability and transparency

We recently published our annual Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) report, too, to show how we make real, measurable progress—in some instances enhanced by AI.

The report outlines how Lenovo is accelerating environmental progress through participation in the circular economy, including the continued use of closed-loop recycled materials in its products. We also continue to empower customers with sustainability services that facilitate repair, recycling, and reuse, helping extend product lifecycles and keeping materials in circulation.

We’re excited and encouraged by what’s possible through AI, going beyond the PC or any single device and into seamless, holistic experiences.

So while we love the opportunity to work with Formula 1® to light up the London skyline—who wouldn’t?!—our teams remain focused on inclusive, transformative technology for all

Accessibility is such a key piece of AI’s impact. Learning AI and automation was one of the best investments I made in myself — but making these tools easier to use will open doors for millions more. Excited to see companies like Lenovo driving that forward.

AI isn’t just about big breakthroughs, it’s about the small, everyday applications that quietly transform how we work and live. Making it more accessible ensures the benefits are shared more widely, not just kept at the top. Excited to see how this edition of What The Tech unpacks that. 🚀
