Background:

In 2024, Romania’s parliament passed a bill requiring all prosumers with PV systems between 10.8 kW and 400 kW to install energy storage systems. Existing prosumers with systems between 3 kW and 400 kW must also comply by December 31, 2027, or their electricity export to the grid will be limited to 3 kW.

The capacity of prosumer installations exceeded 2,200 MW at the end of November 2024.
