FTC Investigates How Big Chatbots Impact Kids & Teens

What’s happening: The U.S. Federal Trade Commission has launched inquiries into major AI chatbot makers (OpenAI, Meta, Snap, etc.), digging into how their bots interact with children and teens, how user data is handled, and how responses are formed—especially around potential harms.

Why it matters for leaders: We build products and workplaces, but most of us haven’t paused to consider the ripple effects beyond profits—how AI tools shape human behavior, especially in vulnerable populations. When trust is at stake, so is reputation. This isn’t future dystopia—it’s happening now. Leaders need to own safety and responsibility, not leave them as afterthoughts.
