The refining sector continues to experience volatile margins and the fuels commodities market is extremely competitive. Projected demand for traditional hydrocarbon fuel products continues to decline, while new refining capacity in Asia and the Middle East has increased competition. At the same time, refiners face processing heavier, cheaper crudes and non-standard feeds. The white paper examines configurations that can help enhance the hydrocracker’s contribution to overall refinery margins. One of the biggest constraints in greenfield projects is the high capital expenditure of the high-pressure absorption column, which can account for up to 40% of total project costs. Increasing mass transfer rates and throughput without expanding equipment size is crucial to keeping costs down while ensuring compliance with product specifications. For greenfield projects, Shell’s Turbo Technologies (STT) enables smaller, more cost-effective absorbers by maximising gas-liquid contact and separation efficiency, reducing the contactor column Capex by up to 50%. Read the white paper to explore how integrated line-ups can maximise hydrocracker flexibility: https://hubs.ly/Q03DXtsC0 As a critical catalytic conversion unit, the hydrocracker provides refiners with valuable feedstock and product slate flexibility. Several businesses have taken this flexibility to the next level: adapting their units to handle extreme feeds or transforming their operating strategies to capture new opportunities in petrochemicals and lubricant base oils. Case studies show that these strategies have delivered meaningful results, from enhancing the potential for making heavy base oils to helping improve margins. #OilAndGasIndustry #Hydrocrackers #ShellCatalysts

Over the past decade, SaskPower’s Boundary Dam Unit 3 has captured over 6.8 million tonnes of CO2 while managing the impact of highly contaminated flue gases. SaskPower and Shell Catalysts & Technologies overcame a number of challenges in this first-of-a-kind project, including high fly ash content, accelerated amine degradation and the complexity of integrating with an existing power plant. The project has helped reduce the perceived risk of post-combustion carbon capture and storage. After more than a decade, the unit continues to operate with high reliability. Stream the on-demand webinar: https://hubs.ly/Q03v0dct0 The current surplus in MEG production capacity relative to demand has led to a significant downturn in MEG prices, creating challenging times for EO and EG producers. Fortunately, strategies exist, and plants have been able to run under low turndown conditions. This webinar will outline short-, medium- and long-term solutions that show how operators can manage turndown. #RefineryMargins #EOEG #RefiningTheFuture

Looking to reduce carbon intensity? Syngas products may be the answer. Low-carbon intensity syngas can be converted into sustainable aviation fuel and other products via Fischer-Tropsch or other technologies. It can also create synthetic sustainable aviation fuel, which could satisfy new renewable fuel mandates within the ReFuelEU Aviation Legislation.
