INTRODUCTION:
In India, every year there is increase in number of electricity thefts across domestic
electricity connection as well as industrial electricity supply, which results in loss of
electricity companies energy and because of which we are facing the frequent problems of
load sharing in urban as well as rural areas so as to overcome the need of electricity for
whole state
This project presents a detection of power theft in every houses and in industry for different
methods of theft. Electricity theft is indiscipline to our daily life with increasing need of
electricity.
The objective of this project is to design such a system which will try to reduce the illegal
use of electricity and also reduce the chances of theft.
Components:
1. ARDUINO UNO
2. GSM MODULE A6
3. CURRENT SENSORS (ACS732)
4.VOLTAGE SENSORS
5.RPS
6.RELAYS
7. LCD DISPLAY (16X2)
8.TWO INCANDESCENT LAMPS (60WATTS)

WORKING
• When supply is given to the main load, current sensor 1 and 2 continuously measures the same current when
no theft load is connected at energy meter supply terminals.
• When there is a tampering near the energy meter terminals, PIR sensor detects the human movement or
radiations at the energy meter terminals.
• Thus, PIR sensor signals the Arduino that there is a chance of tampering.
• Then, Arduino compares the currents passing through the current sensors 1 and 2, if it is equal then LCD
displays “NO THEFT DETECTED”.
• If current sensors 1 and 2 senses different current then LCD dispalys “THEFT DETECTED”.
• GSM module sends an SMS as “THEFT DETECTED”.
BYPASS DETECTION UNIT
If the person use a the power without connecting to energy meter, that means if he is bypassing the connection
in energy meter without any reading in energy meter the person use power in houses at time our circuit send a
message to substation controller through GSM with help of Arduino.
Applications:
• The system can be incorporated for almost all types of users.
• The concept is well suited especially for villages and interior areas.
• We by this design like to conclude that the power theft can be effectively curbed by detecting
where the power theft occurs inform the authorities.
Advantages:
• This method will reduce the energy wastage and save a lot of energy for future use.
• We can detect the location from where the power is being stolen which was not possible
before.
• Optimized use of energy.
• Automatic user identification.
Conclusion:
• The project of ours is aimed at reducing the heavy power and revenue
loss that occur due to power theft by the consumers.
• The proposed system will be hidden in such meters and as soon as an
attempt is made for the theft, it will send a sms using GSM modem, by
displaying the respective consumer meter number to control unit of
electricity board
