• #4: So what do we mean when we’re talking about podcasts: On-demand audio is broad. It refers to any digital audio downloaded by request and not listened to via a live stream. On-demand audio includes full shows/podcasts, segments from shows/podcasts, and standalone audio stories or clips. Podcasts are a subset of on-demand audio. They consist of recurring shows or audio content collections. And often they are online only, but we might see our podcast content broadcast on radio!
• #5: The kind of content we’re talking about today is creative audio storytelling, that takes some time to craft. Yes, the TSIMA stuff is really great but but still very much a work in progress, Sylvia Tabua is coordinating the podcast project which I think will result in award winning material in 2019. What makes a podcast different from a broadcast? It’s a fine line but it’s about the writing. For me it’s the voice, that thoughtful reflective voice that puts the character inside your head and places the narrator and all their foibles right in the middle of the story. It doesn’t pretend to be authoritative or even truthful. It the naive, vulnerable protagonist discovering reality.Tony Collins       
• #6: The good news is, you’re already sharing heaps of audio online and some of this is creative audio! Are you podcasting? Tell us about it? Who are you hosting it with? Is it on-demand or unique content? What makes podcasting hard for you?
• #7: Giordy - I’m just going to cover the basics of what you need to get started with a podcast, and its much easier than you might think…the number one thing you need is TIME! Firstly we’re going to have a listen to a tiny excerpt from one of NG Media’s podcasts- the Mamu, or Ghost Stories that they created and shared on their LibSyn podcast channel in 2017. There are 5 episodes in the series all go for about 10 minutes I think this audio perfectly illustrates the elements you need to make a shareable podcast… PLAY AUDIO It has a strong Concept, who isn’t drawn in by the idea of a ghost story? Think of your immediate surroundings, where you live, who you interact with. What makes you special? What are people really interested in when you talk to them in conversation? You might be really interested in goldfish breeding or have a knack for talking to strangers. Either way you should have a solid concept and stick with it - you don't want to bore or annoy people. They’ve done some field recordings, so they’ve taken the Gear out of the studio and done interviews and collected sounds. You don’t need a lot of gear to start creating something, a computer, a recorder or a smart phone, a microphone and some headphones. You just need to practice using them! It has a unique Sound, they’ve created an intro, used music, multiple voices and a translator, they’ve got some natural sounds and some sound effects they have created and they’ve made this consistent across the entire series. It’s scripted! We are so used to adlibbing on the radio, but for a really great podcast, scripting is crucial, and so it making it sound like its not scripted- which is tricky and takes practice It has been edited and mixed together – Heli will talk more on this- but generally podcast content is a chance to get really creative with your editing and mixing skills It’s been hosted on a podcast platform that makes it easy to share, subscribe, download, embed and makes it visible on other podcast sharing platforms- like itunes and spotify! NG Media- These podcasts contain a collection of Aboriginal ghost /mamu stories from across the Ngaanyatjarra Lands in Western Australia.  Some are traditional stories....some are real-life stories... Listen up!  But don't get too scared... Also included is a wonderful collection of stories from the Ngaanyatjarra Dreaming series that share what life is like for the people of the Ngaanyatjaara Lands and how traditional culture still plays a big part in everyday life. Stories are recorded in Australian Indigenous languages, (Ngaanyatjaara & Pitjantjatjara) and translated into English.
