The Conference of the Parties to the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) is a meeting of parties that have ratified the CITES treaty. CITES entered into force in 1975 and now has 183 parties. Important meetings of the Conference of Parties have occurred every 2-3 years to review the convention's effectiveness and approve strategic plans. The current strategic vision for CITES aims to reduce biodiversity loss by 2020 in line with other international agreements. CITES has three main goals - contribute to reducing biodiversity loss, ensure compliance with the convention, and secure necessary funding. Strategic objectives under each goal include parties complying with obligations, securing sufficient resources, and increasing cooperation
