Technology has a great influence in many aspects of our lives from decades ago
until now. From the development and use of basic tools, the prehistoric discovery
of how to control fire, to machines, telephones, internet, computers, tablets, smart
phones and even nuclear weapons.
By the invention of phones, computers and of course, internet; it seems that the
world has become a “ global village”.
We can communicate with other people easier and faster. anytime , anywhere.
By the help of technology, the education system has changed dramatically.
Internet and computers play an important role in this concept.
There are several websites, web blogs, applications, wikis and etc. that we can use
for teaching in order to have active and creative classes.
I would like to share some wikis and blogs and their strong and weak points in
these slides.
 Wiki is an online application that allows users to contribute to or edit its
content. Meaning “quick” in the Hawaiian language, wiki is a creative and
open environment where everyone has a voice. The significance of wiki lies in
the fact that there is no assigned “leader” or “head writer”.
 The founder of wiki, Ward Cunningham, described his creation as “the
simplest online database that could possibly work”. And it did.
 There are many wiki sites available for teachers and students, like
wikispaces.com, Wikidot.com, Pbworks.com, Zoho Wiki, FreedomShare,
Wikia, Wikispot,Wiki-Site, Weebly and Google Sites.
Pbworks.com
• It offers educators a range of options that
encourage student-centered learning
• Students can build web sites or web pages
that can be shared with other students and
staff.
• It is free for a basic account
 Unfortunately the access to this wiki site is
not available in this region.
Wikidot.com
 It is free to users
 free web hosting and domain name
 control over ads, and the chance to earn
some money with ads, which can be used
for the next class trip
 Unfortunately the access to this wiki site is
not available in this region.
 By taking the advice, tips, and lesson ideas in The Teacher’s Guide to Wikis, it
should be fun and easy to incorporate wiki into your classroom. As an
education tool, wiki will help keep you and your students engaged and
working together.
 There are also many blogs for both teachers and students to get improved in
their fields. There are lots of blog hosting environments on the net.
 The Learning Network, Edutopia, Classroom 2.0, Edudemic, TeacherTube,
MindShift, Educational Technology and Mobile Learning, TechThought and
are some examples of blogs.
TeacherTube
 It is an online community for teachers to share
videos of instructional learning.
 It is for teachers in any school or even home
teachers, a destination to learn from your peers
 You can also find photos, videos, and audio
recordings to use in your curriculum
 You can also join different groups focused on
specific topics.
 TeacherTube is about community and education
for teachers, by teachers.
Edutopia
 It is part of The George Lucas Educational
Foundation
 The blog's focus is on k-12 educators and
students
 It's two main purposes are to produce content
that improves learning and engages students and
to "collaborate with researchers, teachers, and
curriculum experts" to advance the field of
project-based learning.
 There are so many other blogs that we can explore in order to get some ideas
about creating an effective teaching methods in our classes, to become more
educated, informed and creative.
