This document outlines the course requirements for HCS 430 Legal Issues in Health Care: Regulation and Compliance. Over the 5 week course, students will:
1) Analyze a current legal case or article involving regulatory issues in health care.
2) Create progress summaries and sections on nondiscrimination and health and safety laws for an employee handbook.
3) Research and write a paper on state regulatory agencies or prison health care.
4) Research professional licensing and criminal liability, and strategies to reduce risk of negligence.
5) Develop a presentation on past, present and future legal issues covering topics like patients' rights, consent, privacy, and medical records.
