Informative Essay
Informative essays are a type of writing
that explains a certain problem or a
topic. An informative writer should
always maintain an objective, neutral
tone throughout the essay, or they
shouldn’t try to argue one side over
another.
Aim:
 it educates the readers by imparting
straightforward information, facts, and
details on a certain topic.
 It gives them a new understanding or new
appreciation of some topics which might be
familiar with.
 Writers’ answers questions of how and
why.
Informative Writing
1. Definition Essay
 Provides detailed explanation of an
idea. For instance, about love. The
writers define love based on his
research or even his personal
experiences.
4 Types of Informative Writing
2. Cause and effect Essay
 Explains the connection/link up of two
or more events.
 For example, cyberbullying. Here the
essay may contain their reasons why
one experience cyberbullying and
what are the effect of this.
4 Types of Informative Writing
3. Opposing Sides Essay

successfully. So, in this kind of essay
you are expected to point or tips how

4 Types of Informative Writing
The 3 main parts of the informative
writing are:
1. Introduction
2. body
3. Conclusion
. The formula that you must
remember is (I+MID+C).
 1st Paragraph – Introduction
 2nd – 4th Paragraph – Body (First, In
addition, Finally)
 MI - Main Idea sentence
 D – Details, use text evidence to
prove your point
 Conclusion
(I+MID+C)
 The beginning or the
introduction needs to present the
topic and grab your readers
attention.
 It needs to include the focus
sentence for the entire essay.
Parts of an Informative Writing
 For the body of informative essay
should provide all the necessary
information. It has to piece out fully
the lack of information in an issue.
Parts of an Informative Writing
 In conclusion, you should restate
about the seriousness of issue and
summarize the facts for and against
the main topic.
 You should never introduce some new
information or ideas in the conclusion.
Its main purpose round off your
informative essay by summing up.
Parts of an Informative Writing
• Providing clear and accurate information
• Organizing information in a logical and easy-to-
follow manner
• Using examples and anecdotes to illustrate key
points
• Using visual aids, such as graphs and charts, to
clarify data

validity of the writers argument
 Builds arguments on opinion and
factual statements
 Intends to make the readers do
certain things
 Presents arguments only about one
Persuasive Writing
 Many writings such as criticisms,
reviews, reaction papers, editorials,
proposals, advertisements and
brochures use different ways of
pursuing funds to influence the
readers
 Introduction – articulate your
source of information with a thesis
statement (reaction to the issue)
 Body – list at least 3 reasons for
your opinions
 Conclusion – restate your opinion
in a persuasive way
I+B3R+C
5 Techniques in persuasive
writing
 First, choose a subject that interests you
and that suits your purpose and
audience.
 Second, address the audience.
 Third, clarify your purpose.
 Fourth, make a draft for your essay.
 Lastly, use words that reveal personal
judgment or viewpoints such as
undoubtedly, all always, everybody,
Example of a persuasive
paragraph
Argumentative
Writing
 This is the type of essay where you confirm
that your opinion, theory or hypothesis
about an issue is correct or more reliable
than those of others.
 You argue for your opinion as opposed to
others rather than directly trying to
persuade someone to adopt your point of
view.
Argumentative
Writing
 The main argument presented is
elaborated and explained through
the presentation of its pros (in favor
of) and cons (against) of your
position in an issue.
I-C/T+B-PCR+C
 Introduction – (Claim/Thesis statement)
 A statement of opinion / topic of the argument
 Body: Evidence/Pros
 Proof of facts that support your argument
 Body: Counter argument/Cons
 An argument that the reader would make if
they disagreed with your claim
 Body: Rebuttal/Refutation
 Your response to your counter argument
 Conclusion
 A strong restatement of the original claim
Don’t Forget
 Add an interesting question or an anecdote for the
introduction.
 You can also use appropriate figures of speech to
strengthen your appeal.
 Use reasons and examples as support, use factual
and opinion statements, summarize your reasons,
 Use the last sentence to further persuade your
readers to agree with you, or invite your readers to
action and lastly, revise and polish your work.
Techniques in Argumentative
writing
 Clearly stating the writer's position and thesis
statement
 Anticipating and addressing potential
counterarguments
 Using logical reasoning and evidence to support
the writer's position
 Refuting counterarguments using evidence and
logic
 Using a strong and confident tone to convey
conviction in the writer's position
Example of an argumentative paragraph
School uniforms have been a controversial topic for
decades. While some argue that they promote equality
and a sense of community, others argue that they stifle
individuality and expression. However, the benefits of
school uniforms far outweigh the negatives. By requiring
students to wear uniforms, schools can eliminate the
distraction of fashion and promote a more focused
learning environment. Additionally, uniforms can reduce
bullying and improve school safety by making it easier to
identify outsiders on campus. Ultimately, the decision to
require school uniforms should be based on what is best
for the students and the learning environment.
