This document discusses tire testing and the manufacturing process. It covers:
- Tire manufacturing is a complex process involving over 200 raw materials. Quality control and R&D are critical.
- Common tire tests include tension, adhesion, tear, fatigue and wear tests. Tension tests are often done according to ASTM D412 or ISO 37 standards using dumbbell or ring specimens at 500mm/min.
- Proper gripping, extensometers, and environmental controls are needed to get accurate tension test results, especially for rubber's high elongations. Both contacting and non-contacting extensometers are used.
